I brought up this example already, but this isn’t any different from Google Translate or other automated translators. It’s also AI, and it learns from thousands of translated texts created by real humans. Does that mean that it is stealing the work of translators?

But I agree that it’s a complicated topic and a very new one, and there’s no right opinion on this. We, as a society, still need to figure out what to do with it.

I understand that, but ai isn't a person taking inspiration to create their own art with it's own meaning. It's a manmade tool that uses intellectual property as source material. Lets not assign it sentience right off the bat   but it's such a difficult topic to debate. I understand both sides. But my own emotions create bias against ai and for the humans

It's generative, It takes from it's data source filled with stolen art taken from the internet without artists consent to generate new images. We're nowhere close to machines being able to actually draw for themselves, without the global scale theft these AI companies have done their product would be useless.

We can't really compare human learning to machine learning because their entirely different. Machines right now need to directly use a source (in this case billions of images without consent or compensation) to generate common trends among the data for specific subjects. It's not learning the fundamentals of art, It's not thinking about light, form or colour theory like a human would. It's just regurgitating what it's being fed.

I was hoping it would be a passing fad. Sadly AI images are getting really good at passing as real. Wish it would go away.

It's a big advancement, for sure, and will propel the next industrial revolution in the coming years. 

However, AI imo should not be integrated nor be implemented in Arts and Humanities at all. It's just wrong. I absolutely hate how some people are actually defending the use of AI art and how it's much "better" than artists' works. As an artist, this is just disrespectful. 

It should be regulated, is all. Countries should implement laws and such to regulate the use of AI and increase awareness of the proper usage of AI and how it'll affect us in the coming years. Education will play a big part on this.

It should be moderated, like this is one of the things I wish it was monopolized by capitalism and making it so ****ing expensive nobody could use it.

Too many women will see their faces on fake **** videos, many children too. People and kids being scammed or worse.

And I love technology but AI steals human work and pass it as original when is not. Their products look bad, sound bad and there's not laws to control the negative repercussions of it.

It can lead to wonderful future. Imagine world where AI does most work and development for us, our jobs are actually just doing what we like and we all live off generous UBI since AI will undoubtedly be more productive than humans and will generate more value than we do.

 

However, I can't imagine myself not being depressed by the world where I cannot contribute to world in any significant way since AI is better in doing everything than me. Deepfakes are also creepy but I think we will get used to them and not use video as reliable source...

This is inaccurate because men will also be targeted, and already are targeted in p0rnography (very terrible)
So u can generalize it to disgusting people.

Are you really sure that men are targeted IN THE SAME AMOUNT as women and children? Because police statistics on sexual violence and sexual crimes (these online too) don’t show that. 

I’m not saying that men WON’T have this problem AT ALL, because I’m sure that some groups will be targeted (gay/trans men I bet - another already discriminated group), but straight males? They will be the least affected…

I think the biggest potential positive is that AI could accelerate the advancement of the UBI (universal basic income) movement. AI is bound to force people out of jobs and to stimulate economies, governments will have no choice but to roll out UBI or else risk millions of citizens having no money to spend in the economy. Financial inequality will still exist, obviously, but I could see AI actually ending homelessness in developed countries because of this. I also think there's the potential for AI to change the working culture we live in. If there is less need for humans to work, perhaps we won't be required to work as much? Especially if UBI is rolled out. I could very much see a future where the human experience is less about work and more about wellbeing - all facilitated by AI. 

Everyone said this when the computer and then when the internet arrived 😭😭 and then… turns out it has been shown that people actually work MORE (not even equal)
