it really isn't... it's the only Gaga album and era that underperformed and fans are making unrealistic legends about it

WHY do you people constantly judge her albums' worth on how successful they were in the charts?? Do you even listen to it and enjoy it? Because personally I judge an era on how much I enjoyed the music, visuals, performances, tour, interviews etc. Not how well it' performed' or how 'successful' it was. Why is that? Is it because you want bragging rights that your fav is the most successful? Idgi. I guess we consume art in a different way

Not to single you out and attack you, but just as a general statement. It drives me crazy when I see this. I just do not understand

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I pointed out the commercial success because I personally think many fans (not you specifically, but many fans) overhype ARTPOP as a masterpiece and a misunderstood work of a genius because it underperformed

As a general response, Gaga has albums selling less than ARTPOP, and by popularity standards ARTPOP is more known than many of the albums considered as masterpieces.
It is just that the music isn’t really objectively as good as her other works, and there was a lot of controversies involved around it.

Sometimes when an artist ‘underperforms’ it could be due to the music being too experimental. ARTPOP wasn’t as experimental, it was mismanaged, and the music wasn’t great enough to save the album by itself.

Most people sadly wouldn't even give the album a chance and, it had so much cool stuff included and lot of fantastic songs which didn't deserve to be slandered.

the ARTPOP era was a very tumultuous time for both gaga and the fans. there was a lot of confusion, broken promises, miscommunication or sometimes no communication (legal reasons surely), but it was like, one of the most hyped times for fans. the lack of content in comparison to everything leading up to the era left fans wanting more, disappointed, upset etc. i think a lot of people really connect with the meaning of ARTPOP, nostalgia, have a connection with that time period, just love the album and the content we did get from the era. it was a very bittersweet time that was like, SO much hype, SO much fun, but SO much disappointment and sadness. people enjoy music for so many different reasons or enjoy an era for the same.

with the gp, it really got panned HARD in so many different areas. it was just not a good time and i think fans just crave what was lacking for that specific era, that specific album, etc. it gained such a cult following and of course people will either hop on the bandwagon or genuinely vibe with it. i think that's why, or at least part of it

I don't think ARTPOP is her most iconic, The Fame Monster, Born This Way and even The Fame were and are still some of her most beloved eras, it's when she was on top of the world. The thing with ARTPOP is that she had created a strong fanbase by this time, she started teasing the album more than a year before, this was her fun/irresponsible record coming after the hip surgery. The mess that went on behind the scenes, cancelled stuff, etc. is what has made it one of the most talked about because it didn't have a good cycle, ended up abruptly.

As for ARTPOP Act 2, yes of course she had plans to divide it into 2 acts, one being commercial and the other experimental. Then we got the album we know but even after the release of it, she was still talking about having enough material for an Act II and she wanted to release it before tour so that's one more thing that was supposed to happen and got cancelled.

It feels iconic to me because it felt like the last big major pop album release. It was hyped for years, and with the iTunes festival performance in London and the ArtRave in NYC, it felt like a big moment in Gaga's career. I don't think I ever saw such huge launch parties before.

i feel like each album there is a zeitgeist and for me ARTPOP was it for me. I can scream every song, feel every beat, dig deep in every chord.

I think it was the album/era that people had the highest expectations for and were met with the biggest let down and disappointment.  And that’s not necessarily talking about the music itself, but the role out and lack of excitement and content we got along with the era,

therefore ppl can’t stop talking abt it because they still are holding onto what they never got out of the era

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”
