2School4Cool 6,068
Genuine response to those asking why sales are lower than expected: His other albums have all had broader pop appeal, while this album is pure rawness, grief, and dealing with his wife’s cancer diagnosis. He has spoken about how this album may not do as well commercially, but he isn’t looking for that this time, he just needed to put out something authentic that hopefully will resonate with people. There isn’t a Bad Habits or Shape of You catching people’s ear, and it’s a really heavy listen. He also hasn’t guarded the album very tightly, he’s performed the entire thing publicly, so lots of fans have already been watching videos on YouTube for about a month. He’s also not doing the same scale promo run he typically does, he’s just doing enough interviews to give some context as to what the album is about (many of these interviews bring him to tears). Despite lower sales, the album is being received by fans and critics extraordinarily well. This might not be a week 1 smash hit but I have a feeling it’ll stick with people for years to come. 2School4Cool 6,068
Just now, pachinko said: His wife has cancer? She had successful surgery in June, so she’s cancer free now! But she was diagnosed while pregnant with their second child and was unable to be treated until after the baby was born. Then Ed’s best friend Jamal passed away suddenly just after the diagnosis, all as he was heading into a court case last February. This album was almost entirely written within two weeks as his way of mentally processing everything. See The Best In Everyone
King of the Fall 3,811
He never released this album intending it to be doing monster numbers on Spotify, its a stripped back and heartfelt collection of mostly acoustic tracks. Definitely the best thing he has released in years.
