We spend way less on them than they make for our economy. Also you clearly dont live in the UK or you would know full well that if we didn't pay for the royals with our tax it wouldn't be spent on anything better, our crappy government can't even use our tax to fill potholes in our roads, we would pay the same amount of tax and see no benefit :alsemanche: We will just have to agree to disagree.

I mean that's fair enough, I just think the concept of monarchy makes no sense. How are they brining value to you? Serious question. I also don't buy the argument that "well if we don't spend money on this one useless thing it would go to another useless thing that really won't help us." That's sort of a defeatist attitude... if the potholes need to be fixed, they need to be fixed. I wouldn't want to be complacent with the way things are. But for me, the bottom line is that I fundamentally don't think there should be a class of royals who are born into wealth and status in that way--I am against that type of nepotism categorically in all forms (that includes the Kardashians, but we aren't exactly funding them through the gov't though).

4th Time Around

Stuff like this actually reminds me that Katy Perry is still out there doing stuff and giving great performances. Its still shocking how she could could go from one of the hottest stars on planet earth to a legacy act confined to performing her greatest hits so rapidly. I cannot think of another star of her level of success who had such an abrupt and permanent commercial downfall.

Hey, I'm king of the world, you ought to hear my song, you come on measure me, I'm twenty inches long

This is the definition of a logical fallacy. Those are two separate issues, completely unrelated. You do realize it's possible to recognize the problem with shootings in America and simultaneously think it's ludicrous that colonizer monarchies still exist in the 21st century, right? Do you understand the concept of walking and chewing gum at the same time.

I personally find it offensive that you seem to be suggesting that being critical of the monarchy somehow means you don't care about school shootings. Have a more salient argument next time, thanks bye.

But solely basing your argument on monarchies on the (past) activities of the institute regarding colonization kinda creates an unfair discussion.

You don't seem to consider the alternatives.

Depending on the country, I feel like having a monarch - as a neutral head of state - nowadays is way better than, for example, having a president with a clear political profile.

It's a more stable form.
