I'm interested to know what albums you have felt a disconnect with over the years after its release, or what album you feel has aged the poorest out of her releases.

Are there any albums you simply do not listen to anymore due to that?

The concept of aging here on GGD is absolute nonsense. Of course, a song that was released in 2008 sounds like 2008, a song released in 1988 sounds like the eighties. Why is that a bad thing? A song is a reflection of the state of the art at that time. Girls just wanna have fun is the epitome of 80s pop music but it’s one of the most important songs in recent musical history. It is actually rare that a song sounds absolutely timeless and it’s not even necessary for it to be timeless to be good. Even Running Up That Hill clearly sounds like an 80s song and people love it to this day.

I have to say... ARTPOP. I love that album for what it is, but I find myself listening to it the least out of her entire catalogue. It's verrrry loud and intense and doesn't always mix well with the things I listen to today.

I disagree. I listened to Björk's Homogenic again yesterday, which was released in 1997 and sounds super fresh and daring to this day. Music can definitely age well or not. The whole dubstep/drum 'n bass sound for example which was very popular ten years ago aged like milk imo, while older music like RnB still gets everyone at parties. And it's not based on just nostalgia, it's sound as well.

I know. I didn’t say otherwise, my point is a song is not bad just because it sounds like a specific time period and I feel like aging is very negatively connoted here.

Well, yeah, when a song "ages" it means it no longer sounds fresh. What you described above would be a song that became a classic.

Like, Bad Romance or Just Dance. They both sound like the late 00s but they're classics so they haven't aged a day.

Meanwhile, imo, some of the songs on Chromatica, despite only being a few years old, have aged so poorly :messga:

It's also a sign of whether an album helped define a period in music (TF and TFM), separated itself from what was "in" at the time (BTW and Joanne), or hopped onto trends that didn't age well (ARTPOP and Chromatica).

Doesn't make the music bad though! :vegas:

This is not what "aging poorly" refers to. That's a dated song, which is different. Aging poorly means over the years, the song or album has not held up and has fell from previous graces. A song can be dated and have a sound resonate to a specific moment and age beautifully. This thread is not about what album is dated in sound. It's about which album, if any, has not stood the test of time and has fell off your radar / gone ignored / etc. For some, a dated song, however, can be a reason it aged poorly. But the two are not synonyms.

Joanne was already bad when it was first released so I chose ARTPOP.
