RebeldeFaith 5,787
It looks more artistic after it was eaten. Poetic even. Can I vanish into a cheeseburger pizza?
Red 99,574
Art is relative and, from my point of view, this is a scam and whoever ate it is the true hero of this story If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

But it’s still a banana taped to a wall… Honestly as someone who went to art school the sheer amount of trolling / bullshitting that takes place in artistic circles is staggering. I'm not saying it's good art, but I'm not a fan of people trying to police what art "is" or "is not". I don't think a banana taped to a wall is impressive or necessarily deserves the attention it gets, but art is an inherently subjective thing. I think you can choose to like or dislike something based on what you value in art, but to say it is or isn't art leads to a slippery slope. Because then anyone could just claim that something "isn't" art for the sake of it. 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔪𝔬𝔫𝔰𝔱𝔢𝔯 𝔱𝔬𝔯𝔢 𝔞𝔴𝔞𝔶 𝔦𝔱𝔰 𝔪𝔞𝔰𝔨 𝔞𝔫𝔡...𝔦𝔱𝔰 𝔣𝔞𝔠𝔢 𝔴𝔞𝔰 𝔪𝔦𝔫𝔢.

OriginalMonster 80
Eating the banana could almost be a part of the art installation as an interactive artwork, especially since it has happened before, will happen again, and doesn't actually cause any harm to the art because the banana must be regularly replaced anyway. Although I assume this is an unintended consequence, it adds an interesting dimension and is actually more intriguing in a way than it otherwise would be. gumzy3000 7,985
I really hate artwork like this. If some random person made this and said it was art, no one would care. But because some artist makes it, the artwork is suddenly prestigious and expensive enough to belong to a museum. Art is subjective but this type of art is so elitist and pathetic. trolly troll troll

Maybe i am speaking from a narrow mindset now but personally I am a bit tired of people calling anything art and just trying to sell out and scam people. It can be a commentary on the absurdity of the industrial society, or consumption but thats not necessarily art. An essay can do that as well. The word's defnition is ''the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.'' To me sticking a banana on a wall has nothing to do with creative skill, craftman ship, beauty or emotional power. Its more like piss taking. Although I see that there should be a place for this for its comic value or its meaning behind it, I would still not call it art.
