Rihanna has surpassed fellow pop star and friend Katy Perry as the most followed woman on Twitter.

The 35-year-old expectant mom - who will star in the upcoming The Smurfs Movie - is now followed by 108.3 million fans on the app. And trailing just behind her, the 38-year-old American Idol judge has 108.1 million.

Katy originally joined the social media platform in February 2009, with Rihanna following that October.

Lady Gaga sits at the number ten spot for most followed on Twitter, and the user with the most followers is Elon Musk. Also landing on the list are Donald Trump, Taylor Swift, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, and Barack Obama.

Elon Musk: 137.4m
Barack Obama: 132.7m
Justin Bieber: 112.9m
Cristiano Ronaldo: 108.4m
Rihanna: 108.3m
Katy Perry: 108.1m

probably more than 67% are bots, ghost followers. The Weeknd has only 17.3M followers (joined in 2011), Beyonce - 15.5M (joined in 2009), Ed Sheeran - 17.3M (joined in 2009). Charli XCX has 3.6M followers and her tweets often gets more likes, comments, retweets and views than Katy's tweets.
