He is an iconic figure in fashion for sure, but he was also very controversial.

Following the news that he will be tributed as the theme for this year's MET Gala, which is MET's most controversial theme yet, suddenly many of the MET regular celebs are rumored or reported will skip this year even after invited, probably because they don't wanna get the backlash if attending, although the press release might gave different reasons, since one can't be so obvious when you're bin the showbiz where careers are often decided by who you know and close with. One that have announces the skip is the host of last year's MET Gala, Blake Lively.

And rumor has it, as per deuxmoi, there will be more announcing theirs soon, now the floodgate has been opened.

I am wondering what are the GGD members opinion of him? And do you want Gaga to attend MET Gala this year despite the risks?

As reminders, here are compilation of controversial things he said or done, which some are straight up mean and hateful:

- He is openly fatphobic. Have numerous times expressing nobody want to see curvy or plus sized models. Have openly aaid he don't  want his designs worn by plus sized women. And have refused to dress bigger female celebrities, including Adele & Lana Del Rey.

-He was also had disdain on refugees & have openly exchange words with former Germany PM, Angela Merkel, on the issue.

- He had criticized and said he was fed up of the Me Too movement, saying as far as that people shouldn't be models if they don't want their pants pulled down and join nunnery instead.

- He have openly against gay marriage and adoption

He’s an a*shole who made really good fashion. One doesn’t cancel out the other. I do find it funny celebs care about this now that he’s dead, yet they were kissing his butt to get front row at Chanel/Fendi. I bet they still have a lot of his pieces in their own collections too. The rumor a few weeks ago was that Anna and the other chairs were being really selective with who was invited at all. So the expectation was that we would be hearing a lot of regulars saying they couldn’t go, yet they were never invited to begin with.

Btw Deuxmoi’s credibility went out the window recently when they were insisting that Taylor and Joe were secretly married. :fan:

You mean they'd skip Blake Lively for Kardashians & James Charles?  :poot:

i mean chanel was an actual nazi, fatphobic comments don’t even compare, but celebrities still wear that. just interesting that they would draw the line here

He’s an icon for sure, I used to wake up super early to see pictures of the show/set way back in the day. However I highly disagree with many of his views and think what he’s said is horrendous.

Reject False Icons

Didn’t he dressed so continuously Nicki Minaj, and even did a line with her on Fendi, or was he deceased already? I mean i don’t want to invalidate that he was fat phobic but do we have proof that he rejected Lana and Adele

Well he was a disgusting person and I don't think our opinion on him change that. The Met is literally a display of wealth by and for rich people so I'm not exactly expecting them to care about Karl being a deceased trash can and I wouldn't be surprised if big names still attend. Their cancelation is a good step in the right direction I guess but it's almost certainly only performative.

Karl was so much more than those things he said later in life... He liked to trigger controversy and I'm pretty sure he said most of these things because he enjoyed pissing people off. He once said women wearing leggings had given up on life... and then proceeded to design leggings.

As per the people that actually knew him personally, he was a caring, intelligent, fascinating human being. The word genius is sometimes thrown around lightly, but not in his case. The void he left behind is enormous and he is missed very deeply.

I'm also not looking to get into any fights, but I'll still say: shame on some of you for the words you're employing. What the hell have you done with your lives? It's your right to disagree with things Karl said, but it's another to completely disrespect the memory of someone that has accomplished so much. None of you are perfect either, and I really hope that one day you'll mean to someone what Karl meant to many people.
