Beyoncé is challenging the Internal Revenue Service(IRS) in US tax court, seeking to reassess her tax $2.7mn tax liability for the years 2018 and 2019.

The Notice of Deficiency claims the singer owed an additional $805,850 in tax for the year 2018, and $1,442,747 for 2019, plus combined penalties of $449,719.40.

Beyoncé's 17 April dispute claims the IRS was mistaken in disallowing millions of dollars' in deductions, including $868,766 in charity contributions in 2018.
The IRS assessed section 6662(a) penalties—accuracy-related penalties. By statute, those penalties are 20% of the amount of the underpayment of tax. However, Beyonce argues in her petition that if any tax is due, the penalties should not apply because she "has acted reasonably and in good faith."

The petition to re-evaluate the singer's tax liability was brought about by the Notice of Deficiency. Taxpayers within the US have 90 days from the date of the notice to file a petition to challenge the original assessment.

According to Forbes, a case will be scheduled for trial as soon as possible - though most are agreed without going to trial.

bionic

deductions for charitable donations are always complicated

for the amounts involved it would be better PR to just accept paying the extra tax instead of letting the taxpayer back your 'generosity'

Y’all it should always be a big deal when someone with this much money doesn’t pay enough in taxes. Why am I held no exception to pay like 20% of my paycheck but these celebs and rich people have loophole after loophole.

If this was a politician or a male artist or something it would be blasphemous but when it’s Beyoncé it’s “is our country this poor” like why isn’t the bigger concern that Bey (and probably sooooo many other celebs) aren’t paying their fair share? I mean eat the rich right?

Also don’t tell me please for the love of god that that $2.7M number isn’t all she owed in taxes….she has an estimated yearly income of over $35 million

If I was filthy rich I just can’t see myself not paying my fair share….like if nothing else it’s preventing you from having to save face in the public eye later on
