Please you guys. Why is it so hard to understand that for a fan to see their favorite movie completely remade by changing the main character, changing the story, tweaking the songs, and even changing the ending can be very offensive? It's like reliving the feeling about the new Indiana Jones movies.. they took something beloved and destroyed it.

If it’s not for you why can’t you just watch the original ? Very offensive? Really?

But I ask, from what place of superiority do you say that a fan's opinion is not valid? Being, precisely, in a fanbase site? It's a bit contradictory. Does the fact that I want to protect and not change something iconic like The Little Mermaid movie, which touched the hearts of millions of people around the world, make me a racist? I think you are not understanding my idea. I emphasize again: the box office will speak and say if this world is ready or not for this type of change. And if it fails, it won't be because most people are racist, but because they are protective of their childhood dreams. In any case, I don't think it will be a fiasco at the box office. So we have to accept these types of changes in the future. For me it will be very difficult. I only hope that the quality of the product convinces me and makes me understand that what I believe is wrong. your favorite childhood movie still exists as it always did. the fact that a black actress is playing her now in a different adaptation isn't degrading the character and you don't have to "protect" anything from black people. If you like it, buy a ticket. If you don’t, don’t buy a ticket. I thought that Harry Potter game would flop but it made a billion dollars. Money is louder than words. It's like talking to the wall. Alright guys, it's all good. Thanks for your opinions. The fact that I do not think the same as you does not make me racist, just as the fact that you think differently from me does not make you people who only think about being progressive. We can all live together with respect for each other. But it is ugly to degrade the opinion of others, like being on top of a horse and talking looking down. Have a nice day. TheFrenchGuy 108
The thing is people still see color blind casting as a statement. Giving equal opportunity to everyone regardless of race when casting a FICTIONNAL role is not about making political statement. Halle got the role because she is the perfect choice. That’s it. Even if you believe someone else would have done a better job, if her race is the issue for you, you have some introspection to do. Racism isn’t always explicit. Black people have been denied auditions for « traditonaly white » roles forever. Your feelings don’t override the fact that it’s about damn time for the industry to make that change. And I, and many other people, do not see this Ariel as the Ariel of the cartoon. And I think, I have every right to believe and feel this way about this film. As you have the right to believe in what you believe. Regardless of our opinions, the box office will speak and say whether or not today's world is ready for this type of controversial changes of iconic characters. And if so. I think it would be a good thing. Apart from us, the fans. 9 hours ago, Mario Roberto Flores said: Why is my opinion racist? I only hope that the quality of the product convinces me and makes me understand that what I believe is wrong. You do realize that Disney's animated The Little Mermaid already significantly deviates from the Hans Christian Andersen source material, right? Disney did not create this "iconic" character, nor did the animation stay true to the original story. Spoiler alert: in the original story, she doesn't have red hair, and at the end of the story, she dissolves into sea foam, among other things. Just as the animated Ariel is different from the mermaid in the story, the live-action Ariel is also taking on a new life of her own. Of course a live-action adaptation will be different from the animated version, as it has been with all of the adaptations, but casting a Black actress as Ariel is not the reason it's different, nor does her race make this a political statement. What makes it political is people complaining about the casting because of her race. She/Her/Hers

Mario Roberto Flores 100
If you read my posts, never talk about Halle's race. I talked about changing an iconic movie. Change an iconic character. The moderator just showed me that this site has gotten kind of intolerant. Where only the opinions of a few are worth. And when you say something different but realistic, they put a label on you and exclude you. Sectarian, I would say. Gaga would never accept this kind of attitude. She has accepted the criticism. And she has always shown to be at the forefront and changed the opinions of many people with his talent and kindness. But he has never punished someone for thinking differently. I thought this place would be the one with the highest tolerance, but I was wrong.
