You can be trans and not have gender dysphoria, but also, gender dysphoria is a real thing that some trans people experience. This is my understanding on it..

Sometimes I feel like some people confuse gender dysphoria with body dysmorphia (not you two)

english is not my native language >.<

People claim you can be trans without feeling gender dysphoria now? Make it make sense, please :rip:

so you want me to feel like sht, say that I'm ''mentally ill'' and that I feel like a ''man'' just so you can feel good??

I don't have gender dysphoria, thats not how I narrate my transition and my life. I feel gender euphoria, I feel at peace bc of my transition and I knew I was a girl since I was 6-7 years old.

I'm trans bc I don't identify with my assgined gender at birth.

Whats causing a cis woman to transition from a regular face and body, to a Kim Kardashian? They risk their own life by going through surgery and extreme pain. They even spend all their money and savings on it! Not to mention all the money and health risk to maintain it for years. They clearly dont have dysphoria, they do it just because they want to. Cant the same logic apply to someone wanting to live as the other gender?

I dont have any strong opinion on this, im just having fun exploring this topic as I find it interesting.

cis women and cis men are always affirming their gender with surgeries, clothes, the way they talk and act, etc

You can be trans if you feel more euphoria in your preferred gender, that is how I see it. Trans != having to go through gender dysphoria, stress, the aching thoughts and feelings about your gender and your image of yourself. Trans is about identifying with a gender that is not the gender you were born with, and essentially transitioning to that identity. People can do it because they may feel more euphoric in one gender more than their assigned one, not necessairly because their assigned gender makes them go through the experience of gender dysphoria.

I am saying this as a trans individual myself.

How long does 'euphoria' last though because it doesn't sound sustainable. I'm cis so my gender identity matches my body, so why aren't I feeling 'euphoria' over it all the time? I just don't get how you can feel euphoria without dysphoria on some level.

Do you feel him sir?

you literally said that people without dysphoria can't be trans, so that makes it personal, you invalidated my trans identity so I think you care about me and other trans people like me, transphobe.

I'm sorry, but isn't gender dysphoria the medical term for a mismatch between the biological and the 'experienced' gender? How can you be trans without having gender dysphoria? I don't understand.

Spoiler

''Need I remind you that Western medicine has been less than kind to trans people historically?

Trans people were “treated” by being encouraged to conform and accept their assigned gender rather than transitioning. Medicalizing the lives of trans people hurt us for a long, long time – it meant that we were treated as having a psychological disorder rather than a valid identity.

Placing the lives of trans people into an “illness” framework ultimately stigmatized their identities and left their needs to be dictated my “medical professionals” rather than trans people themselves.

The medical model disempowered trans people.

Trans people were treated as deviants with a shameful mental disorder, and language like “gender identity disorder” and “gender dysphoria” is tied to that history. The medicalization of trans people was a major source of oppression and harm.''

Spoiler

''When you suggest that dysphoria is the one way of determining whether or not someone is trans, you are relying on a medical model that wasn’t created by trans people, but rather, created by Western medical “professionals” who viewed transness as a disorder rather than an identity.

And I’d like to move as far away from this framework as possible.

Changing it from “gender identity disorder” to “gender dysphoria” doesn’t change the fact that it’s still operating within the same medical model and still functioning as a “diagnosis.”

I kinda understand what you're saying, how dysphoria exists as a mirror to euphoria, and there may be a level of truth to it, but Gender Dysphoria has a specific connotation that those with it experience an overwhelming amount of distress and incongruence to the extent that transitioning is a means to escape those feelings. Which may not accurately reflect the actual feelings and decision-making of that person. On top of that, dysphoria isn't the only thing you can compare euphoria to, you can also compare it to ambivalence. You don't have to hate your assigned gender identity to know you prefer another. It's also possible that ambivalence may be the height one might ever feel toward any gender as well. It's also also possible that cis people experience gender euphoria more than they think, but they just don't recognize it or can't separate it from other general feelings of joy and satisfaction.

From my own experience, I'm ambivalent to my assigned gender identity, I felt dysphoric when I tried certain identities, and I feel euphoric to the one I identify with.

As a trans woman, I can't imagine being a trans person and not experiencing gender dysphoria. I feel like gender dysphoria is the reason we transition. Sure these feelings of dysphoria can fade and disappear when our body aligns with how we view ourselves mentally.

I don't mean to invalidate anyone by saying that and I'm open to learning new things but my opinion is that it is really difficult to understand how someone can be trans without having felt gender dysphoria at a certain point in their life.

I agree but im mostly coming from a place of exploring the idea, and I dont care why an adult trans person transition, it doesnt effect anyone.

Does a cis woman who fully transforms into a Kim Kardashian have Dysphoria? no, they do it simply because they want to. So I think the idea of a trans transitioning without gender dysphoria is a possible thing, even though almost all of them do it because of dysphoria.

I think it is more of a terminological discussion here about cis gendered people experiencing no euphoria, so trans should not be labeled with initial dysphoria.  I am not sure if I agree with this statement.

I agree with you. No one changes their gender without experiencing discontent with their biological gender at birth. Gender Dysphoria is a real thing; if you had not experienced it would you have changed genders? Also, the OP gave an example about a woman trying to look extremely like Kim Kardashian. Well, anyone who spends thousands of dollars to look like someone else also is severly unhappy in their given body. There are medical terms for that too.

I am open to learn, but saying you can be a trans person without experiencing gender dysphoria sounds like a man who likes solely men, but does not label himself as a homosexual. It is just language.

Treat gender as a fluid, and like fluid, it takes the shape of the object it's inside.

It is common to feel sometimes very euphoric and sometimes less, and that's okay. I feel like what you choose to identify as could come with identifying as the gender that gives you the most long-term euphoria and is most true to your feelings.

Those without dysphoria may be able to reflect on their identity more easily, because there isn't this ache that puts you in a cycle of stress when you are seen as a form with gender that isn't aligned to your true identity.

You cannot necessairly attach a gender to a body type, even if so, it is not only about your body. and honestly, the difference between is so loose and fake, I think in the future the world realizes that a lot about gender is a joke.

I agree with you, someone who’s always using surgery to look like someone else must be experiencing some kind of mental illness/ difficulties and I feel like it’s becoming more and more common.

In my case, I knew I had to transition because I had severe dysphoria with certain parts of my body to the point were I was depressed for years and wanted to kill myself. I’m not saying that people have to experience gender dysphoria as bad as I experienced it to be trans but I feel like they at the very least have to feel some discomfort in their body.

Now if someone wants to transition but doesn’t feel gender dysphoria and is old enough to understand the consequences of transitioning, who am I to judge.
