New ContraPoints video essay.

Another great video. I feel like it addresses all of the "legitimate concern" debate better than the first one. The laid back tone also feels like a throwback to her older content

I just wish it was a more concise/shorter version of the first one, it's hard to catch the attention of those who are less informed about the situation with a 2 hour long video. But it's worth watching

I meant the part about medical care.

I believe that trans people suffer from transphobia and the pressure to pass or fit in but I think gender dysphoria is a made up thing by cis doctors, I know they were just trying to understand us back then.

edit: I would never tell another trans person that their dysphoria is not real btw

If it's not gender dysphoria what is causing you to transition?

Gender dysphoria today is medically seen as an internal mental thing that you are born with. But what if its not an internal thing, but its society thats causing gender dysphoria in some people because of gender expectations and preassure?

Its an interesting question, but its also insane how fast the talking points shifted from we have gender dysphoria, to we dont have gender dysphoria!! I think this is happening because trans people are being labelled mentally ill and delusional for having a medical condition like gender dysphoria.

PhilosphyTube said gender dysphoria is a made up thing by cis doctors, and ContraPoints responded saying Gender Dysphoria is real. That alone got her cancelled in certain communities, so Contra responded again saying even if gender dysphoria is not real, we shouldnt promote that idea because it will hurt trans people getting medical care.

Are two different dysphorias beung talked about? Bc I feel like it’s pretty widely accepted and understood in the queer and especially trans communities that to be out of alignment with one’s gender identity is dysphoric (it’s why you would pursue gender affirming care)

like I’ve definitely felt this feeling of “oh this outfit is NOT the one; it makes me feel really gives me a lot of dysphoria” bc it leans in a way that feels like…just out of alignment

totally open to being wrong about the phrasing btw this was just my impression and experience  in being queer

Yeah the majority of queer and trans people agree with you. It was just one famous trans person (PhilosophyTube) that said gender dysphoria is not real, and that opened a big debate online.

But it does seem like some of the gender dysphoria talking points are starting to change in the LGBTQ+ community, I explained in the comment above your comment why I think thats the case.

Mmm ok I see the point you’re making. It just goes to concerns of ableism from TERFs and anti trans people

Then why do the vast majority of trans people experience it?

I think they’re including these people who identify as unicorns or something and use special pronouns. They can choose to identify as a unicorn, therefore gender dysphoria is not always real.

That’s not gender related at all, that’s called delusion. Those kind of people should even be mentioned next to trans people they are incredibly harmful to trans people and make them look like a joke

People claim you can be trans without feeling gender dysphoria now? Make it make sense, please :rip:

You can be trans if you feel more euphoria in your preferred gender, that is how I see it. Trans != having to go through gender dysphoria, stress, the aching thoughts and feelings about your gender and your image of yourself. Trans is about identifying with a gender that is not the gender you were born with, and essentially transitioning to that identity. People can do it because they may feel more euphoric in one gender more than their assigned one, not necessairly because their assigned gender makes them go through the experience of gender dysphoria.

I am saying this as a trans individual myself.

Whats causing a cis woman to transition from a regular face and body, to a Kim Kardashian? They risk their own life by going through surgery and extreme pain. They even spend all their money and savings on it! Not to mention all the money and health risk to maintain it for years. They clearly dont have dysphoria, they do it just because they want to. Cant the same logic apply to someone wanting to live as the other gender?

I dont have any strong opinion on this, im just having fun exploring this topic as I find it interesting.
