Garden Panty :air:

I always thought she was describing her look as a Venus in those lines (seashell bikini, garden panty etc.) and thought of this as garden panty:

I struggle with the perspective of the lyrics in Swine.

(Slight trigger warning SA)

On the one hand you could interpret it as her calling her abuser a swine, which is the most popular interpretation. But then these lyrics don't make sense:

"Maybe I should have a little more just to stay out of my mind
'Cause it's when I'm not thinking of you that I act like a swine"

To me those lyrics change the whole meaning of the song. I've come to interpret it as her having a conversation with her addiction. The song could mean that she needs to get high to escape negative thoughts about herself (aka: she finds herself disgusting, unless she's high).

And then the following part could be the addiction talking, trying to 'seduce' her into using more:

"I know, I know, I know, I know you want me
You're just a pig inside a human body
Squealer, squealer, squeal out, you're so disgusting
You're just a pig inside"

That also matches her speech at ArtRAVE, where she talks about needing to 'rave' to express her anger and rage. And in the end it could all be related to her trying to process her trauma, circling back to her abuser being a swine.

It's convoluted, but it's the only way I can make sense of the changing perspectives in the song :laughga:

She explained that she had a very messed up way of dealing with what happened, and that it took years to even admit it to herself. I think the song expresses how disgusted she is with herself, and how she's used substance abuse and oversexualizing herself to deal with it.

“i want you bad romance” what could it mean?

I’m not sure if this is a joke but in case it isn’t!

The line “I want your bad romance” (not you, which may be the source of the confusion, but your) sums up what the song is about.

She said it’s about being in love with [her] your best friend and the whole song she’s talking about how she knows that love is ill fated and will end badly but she wants anyway. She doesn’t want to be friends, she wants to be lovers even with all the bad she knows is going to come of it. It’s a Bad Romance because it’s doomed to fail, but she’s desperate for it.

After all this time and I still haven’t figured out “Haaaaim feelin the way that I’m feelin I’m feelin with you” :traumatica:

Logically I don’t get it. Emotionally I think it means something to me though? Lol

For me it means thats you refused for a long time to see the way you were feeling on the inside towards someone (in a negative way), but they've reached a point of hurt where you can't ignore it & fake your feelings anymore, you're feeling the way you're truly feeling about them

‘Lovers kites, are flown on beaches for public sight’ :awkney:

This line as an image representing the showoff aspect of romance in social contexts.

In other words : "Lovers display their romance on the beaches for everyone to see."

The whole ARTPOP song is about coming together in an authentic and genuine way, without all the fuss and unnecessary details.

I interpret this as her saying that something so blatant and vocal is not always sincere, as summer love stories [on beaches] tend to be passionate but short-lived.

Time. It will not wait, no matter how hard you hold on...
