Kimmo 80,121
Researchers from the social media firm Graphika found that harassment runs amok in the fan community — and it can teach us a lot about how people behave online THERE’S SOME BAD blood in the Taylor Swift community. According to a new report from social media tracking firm Graphika, the largest harassment in Swift fandom spaces is happening between radical Gaylor and Anti-Gaylor accounts online — and changing fandom interactions for the worse. #Gaylor is a long-running fan theory that baselessly purports Swift is queer and is leaving secret messages referring to it in her work. (While she does leave “easter eggs” about various topics in her music, Swift has never said she is anything other than straight and has only been in public relationships with men—though she has been a vocal advocate and ally for the LGBTQ+ community.) Anti-Gaylor fans, also known by the derisive term Hetlors, are a subculture of Swift followers who believe the harmless Gaylor fan theory is disrespectful to the pop star. The theory, which originated on the blogging site Tumblr in the mid-2010s, became a renewed topic of interest online when Swift abruptly announced her tenth studio album Midnights in 2022 — and began releasing coded messages about the contents and meanings behind her new songs. Swiftie groups were connected by content focused on the pop star, most of which is largely benign. Yet both Gaylor and Anti-Gaylor accounts use common harassment tactics like doxxing, mass reporting through coordinated attacks, and using coded language and sock puppet accounts to expand their reach and evade bans. thatslife 86
I'm a gaylor some of my friends were outed to their family and workplace a couple of years ago. They thought betty (the song) had queer undertones and that was considered rational retaliation The internet is toxic by default but swifties are on a whole different level. My account and others I follow are regularly told to kill ourselves, that we deserve to be sexually assaulted, that we are disgusting d slurs. I know they just say it to be shocking but man is it tiring. Completely unprompted and even when I block them (I've blocked almost 2k) they keep popping up. Very annoying

I guess it's on Twitter? Isn't it more annoying than fun when you have to slalom between so many*ssh*les? I swear folks still sometimes present us as a very rabid fanbase but we're so far from being like many K-pop groups stans, barbz or even swifties and imo beehives. 4th Time Around 4,320
The partner of my brother is a huge swiftie and one year for Christmas she placed a picture of Taylor Swift atop her tree instead of a star🥴I walked into the room and it took every bit of my self control to stop myself from bursting out laughing. Taylors hardcore fanbase sometimes act more like an unhinged cult than people who enjoy her music. They viciously attack anyone who dares say anything less than hero worship and invade subreddits and forums spamming about all her stats as if I care. I saw a post on Reddit expressing the opinion that Midnights was average at best and it was downvoted to hell and full of arrogant responses claiming the reason the poster did not enjoy the album was because she did not understand anything about it. Hey, I'm king of the world, you ought to hear my song, you come on measure me, I'm twenty inches long

On dating apps like Tinder I always expect to see some occasional diva worship in some of the profiles (I'm swiping through gay men after all) but for some reason the only guys who advertise their diva worship are the swifties. Obviously there must be monsters, b hive, barbz etc. on the apps but it's like everyone else has the the common sense not to advertise their stanning? But the swifties don't grasp that concept I guess. I've seen so many profiles talk about being obsessed with taylor and touting it as a core personality trait.
