I feel like she should have consistently dropped music after Have Mercy and stayed with that sound. It's still her top song and I feel like her momentum then would have afforded her a better collab than a woman beater. Instead her/her label/A&R let her burn through her momentum and small fanbase dripping content that doesn't sound anything like the full body she released. An album that's set to differentiate her from her sister after wasting her head start during which she could have established rather than differentiated. And all this while jumping to be the protege of a megastar she tried to imitate but couldn't get a feature from herself.

Damn, I really came to love album and it sucks that it isn't successful. I do agree the rollout was most likely the issue on why the album is underperforming. The singles she released too were WAY different to the tone of the album which I felt turned off alot of people.

The decay. Nobody wants a Beyonce replacement while we still have Beyonce.

Idk I feel like this is a hollow argument to make. The only song she got remotely close to trying to be like Beyonce is Have Mercy which is her best performing song. I think it's that her rollout has been a dragged on mess without any type of plan or coherence to it. Her singles didn't sound anything like the album and she put out a R&B album while SZA was very much enjoying the R&B spotlight. She should have put out a one off Pop song that leans into R&B around now, leaned into the sound more with 2 more singles, and put out a complete album around June. Ideally Beyonce would have released her second album from her trilogy with Chloe featuring on a song, but that rollout would have delayed Chloe even more.

Awww. It's a shame but for some reason I only still listen to Chloe and Halle

I’m confused is this based on pure physical album sales alone?

I thought BB counted streams for albums when charting

she had no physical copies. 10k are units sold - digital downloads + streams (1 unit = 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid streams)

SAD but hopefully she learns from it that it just wasn't music that resonates/hits with people. hope she has more chances to prove herself and doesn't just get shelved by her label. i was excited for it and it was kinda disappointing not gonna lie

It remains wild to me that she produced so much of Ungodly Hour and did an amazing job yet seemed so weirdly wooden and uninspired on her solo record.

i think this is slightly ignorant - not every black girl should be compared to beyonce - thats like saying theres only room for one black woman on the field. i think she flopped cuz the music is boring not cuz she was trying to imitate someone

kinda expected, the album is fine but feels disjointed and too similar to ungodly hour for it to really be obvious that she is stepping out into a solo career, a shame that she was not able to capitalise on the momentum of Have Mercy
