Ellie Goulding has said she views her upcoming album, ‘Higher Than Heaven’, as her “least personal” release yet.

The singer explained in an interview with Rolling Stone that she wanted her fifth album to be “completely different” from its predecessor, 2020’s ‘Brightest Blue’.

“In the best possible way, this album wasn’t taken from personal experiences, and it was such a relief and really refreshing to not be sitting in the studio going through all the things that happened to me and affected me. Because I feel things very deeply. I always have,” she said. “It’s the least personal album, but I think it’s the best album because I got to just explore other things about myself. I just really, really enjoy writing, really enjoy being a singer.”

Lol the balls if Gaga ever made an album and said that :ladyhaha: I feel like every album since the fame has been her “most personal”

I love how most artists try and at least pretend their latest body of work is their most personal but here Ellie doesn’t care at all 😂 I wonder how she thinks this album compares to her others - for some reason the messy rollout has made me think that she doesn’t really care for it? Absolutely mad that 8 out of 11 tracks and 9 out of 16 tracks on the standard and deluxe albums have already been released

Me too. I see a lot of people say that Delirium is her worst and I really don't get that.

Out of the three already released, Delirium is def the weakest. Halcyon (Day and Night) is the best imo,

I love that she said the opposite of wheat every single pop singer says when they release an album.

Doesn't have to be a bad thing. Folklore by Taylor Swift is her least personal album because it's mostly from the perspective of fictional people but it's definitely her best written album.

Maybe she just wanted to make fun music that doesn’t take a toll on her emotionally. I think her explanation makes sense

Not every piece of art has to be a personal reflection of the artist. Especially singers/songwriters, they can create work that's about other topics or themes. It can be about reflecting the world around then, or exploring less serious topics. Creating fun dance music or things to just bop to is an artistic choice of its own. I appreciate when artists don't take themselves too seriously and can admit that their works are for entertainment or fun. That's ok!
