I just feel like he just name dropped Taylor to avoid talking about important issues like pushing PRC agenda , censoring Ughur Genocide on tiktok.Last week, I commented on a tiktok about ethinic groups in PRC asking where are the ughurs and then I got notified about violating community standards. LIKE SERIOUSLY!!! And I mostly follows fitness tiktokers and movies and series and Korea dramas , my algorithm should be within this zone but this week I can only see tiktokks of this guy with crazy edits like I am not interested in you and your PRC agenda.

If you think US congress is bad and don't trust in them, I got to break it to you , PRC is coming for your freedoms and democracy with their dictatorship and censorship.

Trust me .

"I engaged with a topic (PRC ethnic groups) and am baffled I now get videos about the PRC agenda" if you engage with something you're likely to get videos based off it. It also depends on who you follow and what they engage in. Censoring an app because you're weary of censorship is weird.

A regular person can also pay to have their posts boosted on social media too.  I’ve done it before for stuff I wanted to advertise.  This is how businesses work.

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

No it isn’t lmao they aren’t a streaming service or directly selling music. I get the argument of they have a hand in music bc it benefits their app’s traffic but that’s not the same as literally distributing music. TikTok incorporates music for sure and it is vital to the app but that’s not the same as being an actual distributor like Apple with Apple Music, iTunes, etc.

Tik Tok began as a dancing app and has been a leading force in the popularization of the vertical video format. Just because it doesnt let you stream entire songs or buy songs from a catalog doesn't mean it's not a music distributor. The music business is probably outspending everybody else in Tik Toks economy. I'd argue it's pretty close to radio in what it accomplishes.

No, topics I followed on Tiktok are fashion , fitness and movies but in my feed, those toktoks  about those ethnic groups which I have zero interest in , never searched for them, never cared about them  ,suddenly appears on a row .So I commented what  about Ughurs .

I have never engaged or followed PRC agenda before.

If you had read my original post clearly, you would have know I already said I had not followed such topics.

And tiktok is not censored to the general public now.US government is banning the use of tiktok in only government devices which is understandable .

Now they are investigating the user data transfer and the involvement of TikTok with PRC government. That’s a smart thing to do .We don't want our datas sold to a authoritarian regime.

In fact , in PRC, you can't use Facebook, twitter at all.Thats the definition of censorship. If you disagree with communist party.they can make you disappear from all corners of internet like weibo and baidu and search engines. That’s censorship. That’s taking away freedoms. That’s AUTOCRACY.

Read what happened to Fan Bingbing  Read Hongkong protests.

Read about the PRC police stations in other countries specifically designed to crack down Ughurs and activists even when they escaped PRC and run away to other countries.

These Congress trash wanting yes or no answers for nuanced questions is just insane to me.

The whole hearing is a joke (for those not following, at one point a Congressman asked the TikTok CEO if the app has access to home WiFi...JFC. And another asked some strange as **** question about TikTok tracking PUPIL DILATION).

The fact that the CEO didn't go off at them is extremely impressive.

They literally are a streaming service which have their own distribution channel, their own label for TikTok musicians, TikTok houses and soundbites, the soundbites each pay out a royalty rate of 1 or 2 cents.

Their distribution service is literally called SoundOn.

Literally all artists do this,

it’s like when Gaga is given an Apple Deal or Billie was as well

Yes, but there's a difference between public sponsorship/partnership, and payed propaganda. One is transparent and gives the people the option to consume the "product", the other one subliminally brainwashes them into consuming without their consent for exposure.

StressedOut

Lol it's in tiktok's best interest to let users know if their fave is on the platform, keeps them coming back.

I'm sure they internally boosted gaga's first House of Gucci tiktok lmao bc lord knows she never got views like that again.

The heating tool mentioned is used for any kind of content they want boosted, funny, cute, scary, trendy not even only celebrities, sometimes just regular degular tiktoks they think will do well.

This is honestly laughable… someone pays for a service (advertisement via algorithm) and gets that service in exchange for compensation. It’s giving :flop:

Everybody can pay for their service, but it wasn't labelled as an "ad" - usually people instantly swipe if it's an ad.

It's about them not labelling it as an ad. When you pay for boosted content, everyone can see that it's an ad... that's the difference here. They're making it look like it's organic, when it's not.

lasagna

couldnt care less tbh but i do wish things like this were maybe disclosed kinda like how youtubers (+ influencers in general) have to disclose sponsorships and ads

it should be disclosed like "person A is paying company to boost their content" / "company is paying person A to boost their content" or something like that idk but itll never happen and idk if i even really care if it does happen :vegas:
