PS I forgot to mention this but at 4:14 that shot is a reference to the tarot cards ten of swords. Which according to Google: 

"In the upright or positive light, the ten of swords represents destruction, being pinned down by a multitude of things or situations."

"The Ten of Swords denotes a traumatic yet necessary conclusion. It says that one's life has reached its lowest point and cannot get any worse."

I like the song and video but I find this new character's costume very off-putting. I'm confused as to why this is the follow-up to K-12 as the ending to its movie didn't suggest that this is where the next album was going to lead at all. Unless I'm missing something? I'm sure I'll get more into it when the album comes out but I'm just wondering what's with the 360 image change when it seemed like Cry Baby was likely going to be a trilogy.

This is a crybaby trilogy lol, it’s just she’s in a new form now. The video isn’t part of the movie as Mel liked a comment saying that more than likely the movie won’t be out for a while after the album (more than likely a bigger budget and bigger ideas).

Im assuming the “portals” in the title doesn’t refer to the portal they are about to enter at the end of k-12 but, as shown in the video, cry baby is dead for a specific reason and this is her new form (as the character after Nurse’s Office, forgot her name, said to crybaby.)

I think a transformation was foreshadowed in K-12 if you look closely! Lilith comes to them through a portal from another dimension to save them from the nurses, and tells them that they can't come with her yet until they have learned lessons in their current life. Melanie also has a daydream scene where she's on another planet and Lilith's distorted voice tells her that this is only one form, she will have many lives and many forms, as she has before

And Melanie also said this in an interview in 2020:  "She's gonna be evolving and transforming as a being. Her growth isn’t going to be as literal. She’s not gonna go to college, you know, it’s not going to be like that. But she’s definitely going to transform and evolve, but I can’t say anything or else it’ll be a spoiler"

Personally I just didn't expect it to happen so fast   I kind of expected some kind of transition, rather than... Crybaby is dead! This is the new me! I killed her! I am reborn as an alien-pixie! Accept it

Don't be ridiculous. I've seen so many artists pull creative inspiration from nature and gather these kinds of aesthetics. Bjork doesn't own ****ing mushrooms, or having your heart ripped out of your chest. Mushrooms and plant life are a huge part of the whole faerie, spirituality thing Melanie has been obviously obsessed with for the past couple years. Look up faerie imagery and it's all plants, beautiful forests, mushrooms etc.

And aside from that I don't even see any similarities in their works apart from they both look 'weird' and 'alien'. Bjork doesn't have four eyes or large faerie ears or wings or a bunny face or even use the colour pink. Two totally different 'weird' aesthetics. Other artists are allowed to be creative too

The portal at that appears in the middle, and at the end of K-12 film definitely is the connection with the new album.

In the film after Strawberry Shortcake, Crybaby appears in a field under the stars, talking to Lilith crying she doesn't want to be here on Earth and asking to take her with her. The outfit is all pink with some emphasis around the shoulders and hips. This is definitely a tease at the new character we are seeing with Portals.
