Yup, like this aint the first time someone wins without winning one or even the two votings like you said with Arcade on 2019!

Has a country ever won without receiving a single 12 points from the public?

You want me to go through history books to answer to this? :hmm:

Rules are rules and every country participating knows them, you can win by getting 1 point from juries and 600 by televote or 600 by televote and 0 from juries. If the combination of the two makes you get 1st place its still as valid.

This.

And the narrative "people don't know" it's totally wrong, it's not true.ย

I am happy that there are people out there who understands how this is a justified win. Also if we only had televotes it would have been a popularity contest rather than a song contest.

After the Semi Finals we witnessed the disaster of a televote only system. People were whining about taking the juries back and now they want them abolished again. The inconsistency of the viewers is baffling.

Why does that even matter? The points still added up to second most in televotes. Why are you so fixated on the fact that she didn't receive 12 points from any country?

Nobody is saying Swedenโ€™s win is not valid or that they somehow tricked the system. My point is that, when a country gets 12 points from 18 (!!!) countries but still loses to a song that got 12 points from 0 countries because of 5 people in a room, itโ€™s probably not a good system.

This reminds me of how K-pop fans mass buy copies of a song nobody knows and it goes #1 on the Hot 100 and when you point that out they say โ€œA sale is a sale!โ€.

No one liked La Zara here ? The song was really good. Feels like it had some future nostalgiaโ€™s era vibe sometimes.

anyway France has not won for so long. I donโ€™t understand how can people prefer a song like chachacha to thisย

Loved her!! Was in my top 5ย :vegas:

Honestly it was one of my favorites,ย  should have done way better. I been listening to the Spotify playlist with all the songs for weeks and France was always a repeat, to the point it's in my ears and I know the lyrics. It deserved way better. If I'm being honest to me a better song than Sweden and Finland that people are fighting in forย :ohwell:Anyways it's Eurovision no one it's ever happy with the resultsย :ladyhaha:

Just looked it up for you and the recent years since 2016 that they separate tele + juries and Arcade (2019) won with just 1 12 points votes from the public.

Right but without a jury it would also mean that its a popularity contest and and not an actual song competition. Remember that this whole thing started with only juries. Juries will vote for the strongest vocal performance and Finland didn't really fulfill that. It makes sure to stop countries like Croatia from winning. It is supposed to balance things out, wether they always get it right or not, this year was always a close race between Finland and Sweden and Sweden just so happened to be the winner. not getting 12 points is not as big of a deal as you think it is.

Iโ€™m not against a jury, in fact I agree completely that there should be a jury for the very reasons you mentioned. My point is that:

1. Thereโ€™s a difference between blocking a troll entry like Croatia and not voting for Finland because itโ€™s not your typical generic pop song with a pretty performance. Speaking of Finland, we wouldnโ€™t have gottenย an iconic winner like Lordi in 2006 if there had been a jury.

Perhaps they should expand the jury from just 5 people (which is ridiculous) to some sort of team of different performers/musicians/producers/dancers from every country. Or maybe weigh the jury votes less.

2. My problem isnโ€™t even the system, but the way it was aired. They shouldโ€™ve shown Finland get their 18 (!!!) 12-points, not Sweden. I wasnโ€™t even the first to mention it in this thread.

A 133-point difference is not a close race :laughga:

Unless wiki is wrong, they actually got 2:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2019#12_points_3

And that year everything was super close.

Yeah, it was 2, my bad. Anyways it's the same situation that happened this year/every year.ย

Jury gave 40 points to Norway in 2019 and Public 291 and they got 6th place.ย ย

Norway got 52 points from juries this year and 216 from and they got 5th.

Finland got 150 from juries and 376 from tele.

Austria 2018 got 271 from juries and 71 from tele and they placed 3rd.ย

If your total gets you to the top then you deserved it, we all wont agree on the results but it is what it is.

I can agree with your first comment but not your second. You could say the same with the jury vote, Loreen was way ahead of Finland with an even wider gap in points than 113.ย

Also, it doesn't really matter if it was a close race, really. Arcade still didn't win in any of the two categories and still won.ย
