I feel like most people are tired of people constantly talking about the slap, so I don't think it necessarily helped ratings for this year. Besides, what did people think was going to happen? That another incident like that would happen again?

The shows are trying to curate their image of prestige once again so it’s not a surprise. I expect in the next couple of years (not this year tho and probs not the next) the VMAs etc will try and become prestigious again and move away from social media chasing TikTok personalities etc

This years ceremony was honestly one of the best in recent years. Adding diversity and equity to the Academy definitely adds more character and better choices. There’s still a long way to go, but I think it reflected by last night.

I also loved that it was… boring? Normal? No scandal, no major upsets. It really felt like a celebration of film. Minimal politics, minimum grandstanding from the demigods of Hollywood.

The VMAs have a long, long way to go to get out of the TIKTok trend chasing phase. I hope you’re right and they try to appease to quality again.

I wish they had some kind of voting body… I love the Oscars because it’s not voted on by committee (usually very off the pulse in their decisions). The Oscar’s it’s very obvious no one has any actual idea who is actually winning. The VMAs are way to predictable.
