Tempest 884
This is so amazing to watch, sad that it took this long to find representation. Her family’s reaction I want a family to be proud like that I’ve never cried more at a movie before, and I’m scared to rewatch it because it was perfect. That film had me sobbing like a baby, and their speeches last night also left me a blubbering mess, but in the best possible way. Ke Huy Quan's story in particular is so moving. Seeing him and Harrison hug after so many years with their former director, Spielberg, cheering on was just chef's kiss. And Michelle has been kicking ass for decades in Hong Kong cinema. I love that years ago, she called out Jackie Chan as a male chauvinist pig (he's also a homophobe). There are so many things to celebrate about last night's wins and ceremony. StrawberryBlond 14,909
I'm all about "firsts," so I'm delighted to see so many people winning their first Oscars this time. This ceremony sets the record for the most people getting nominated and winning their first Oscars, actually. It's high time new talent and long overlooked talent gets their dues. 18 hours ago, Galagala said: No way her performance is stronger and more deserving than Cate's Lydia in TAR. The latter is like one of the best female performances of all time. But still, Yeoh is great. I did think Cate's performance seemed more traditionally preferable to voters. But at the end of the day, Cate has 2 acting Oscars, one for supporting actress and one for best actress and has had many acting nominations into the bargain. She doesn't need another one to prove anything. But this is Michelle's first ever nomination and win, setting history in the process. She deserves that. As long as someone good wins, it's hardly an injustice. If a performance is awesome, it'll get remembered regardless of whether it wins an Oscar or not anyway. I hear all the time about actors who apparently gave an amazing performance but were robbed of an Oscar or didn't even get nominated. Most people don't even know who won Oscars and for what films, we just remember performances that touched a chord with us personally ragardless of how they get awarded. RAMROD 109,973
Looking at her, and Ke, and The Daniels holding such important trophy within their profession in their hands really gave me hope. As half Asian, I feel validated, that someone who look like me actually wins big categories. It feels like, "look! we exist" And as Michelle said on interviews after the show, "this is the beginning, hope I am not the last" Hope many more minorities are awarded on their dues, and not a one time thing, and back to gatekeeping the award to a certain community again.
