I'd actually love to see more straight people enjoy cultural icons like this song and even find their own meaning in it. That's what inclusivity is about in my mind.

This was my thought when I saw people were upset about Maddie Morphosis being cast on drag race. Like… don’t you think the world would be a much better place if more cis, straight people also felt free to express themselves outside their prescribed societal boxes?!

I get why the judge says what he said. And I agree with him and disagree. I Will Survive was a gay anthem during the AIDS crisis and I understand wanting to preserve its cultural relevance and not just having it taken and forgotten to end up as just another hit song. I appreciate the judge's sentiment but I also agree that it's a song and culture can grow from sharing. Overall I think it should be sung by anyone that identifies with it, but I think it's important to understand and remember the history of it.
