But seriously what do you want from him? He said it, he apologized. He donated money. He hasn’t said anything racist since. He identified the issue, apologized, tried to help the community, changed, and moved on. What more can a human being do?

When people on this site make a mistake, which we all do a human beings; do we want forgiveness and opportunity to learn and grow? Or do we want to be outcast from society and never have the chance to make it right? I really don’t understand this side of our culture. You guys expect to never lend someone a second chance, yet if you make a mistake, you expect the forgiveness and the opportunity to make Right. Why is this hypocrisy here?

You act like he was racist as a kid but grew up. Hun, he literally just went on that racist rant two years ago. And let’s not act dumb, he most likely only apologized because his PR team didn’t like the shít-storm that he caused. Idk why some people are so empathetic towards racist millionaires on here lol

Yes, he said the N word, but those of you preaching his cancellation are equally the reason why it’s alwaysssssss us vs. them and why society can never come together for change. You sound as tribal as the other side by playing into what they want.

Learning is to grow through mistakes, but so many of you, who pretend to be tolerant, demand people be forever ostracized and ruined. Entitled and pious mentality. How is that EVER going to make a change? How is that exhibiting tolerance or getting a better sense of understanding? It’s such a sick cycle the media fools many of you into.

“Empathetic toward a racist millionaire?” See that’s the thinking right there that proves it. It’s not about him…follow your own words and live it. He’s an untouchable rich white man, so why are we worrying about this still? Rather it’s about how we learn and come together for change and the greater reaches of humanity, but instead you’re focused on one person because it’s an easy anecdote and that’s how we engaged nowadays. Never philosophical, all tribal.

He is, however, a product of a larger issue in white america and country music — that’s a fact. And I’m using him as an example, only because of this thread and the remarks I see. He’s just one of many.

Lmao no what’s weird is how so many of you think exerting energy into cancelling random rich white men is going to foster the change you hope to see.

what’s weird is falling for the media’s tribalism like clock work and using intolerance for…tolerance?

Sorry 💀

Lmao you cannot understand the context. I never excused it and sorry you literally cannot read that.

I said wasting energy in tribalism and blaming him or her over this isn’t going to make change.

THINK BIGGER. Not just what the media and social media tells you to go do. That’s what they want. That’s my point 🙄

I'd expect him not to capitalize on his ill gained popularity by releasing a 36 track album honestly. We know albums have a hard time standing on 15-18 tracks, and he's dumping twice as much. It's not that he feels so passionately about the songs, it's that he said something racist, gross white people Stan him for it, and he feels morally okay banking that. It's essentially dirty money imo. Getting popular because I said something nasty would be embarrassing to me, and I wouldn't want that attention. This man can't feel remorse if he's capitalizing on the dirty things that came out of his mouth.

Yeah I'm not interested in uniting with people who go out of their way to unite behind racism. If anything is tribal, it's that. I can't reasonably expect everyone to magically not be racist (although I certainly wish I could). But I can expect them to see everyone as a person and not be outwardly hateful. It takes absolutely nothing to be respectful to strangers that have done nothing but exist. If you're not capable of that, you're not capable of hearing others'views or working with them to accomplish things/compromise on other views.

I didn’t ask for anyone to unite with racists lol. That’s not what tribalism is. Again, I’m saying that wasting energy and direction by cancelling one person over a racist comment changes nothing about how we’re told to engage with one another and make ACTUAL change.

Contrary to what I see, and considering how things ironically NEVER seem to get better, venting on social media about this person or that person and feeling like you’re an activist because you said the morally correct part out loud isn’t going to make a single bit of change. Cancelling is not change. Its too easy and cheap — a moral falsehood and moral self-soothing. That’s the issue I’m discussing.

It wasn’t a rant- he said the word. There was no rant. And it doesn’t matter if it was 2 years or 20 years ago. He apologized, acted on his apology and hasn’t used hateful language since.  So you think, he shouldn’t be foregiven? That has career should be taken away from him due to his obvious lack of judgement? When you’ve made mistakes do you expect forgiveness? Especially after you’ve physically made a change?

I really don’t get this lack of forgiveness in society. Y’all want it when y’all “f” up- but aren’t willing do reciprocate. That’s a flaw on your part.

Have you ever used a racial slur as a grown adult?

I do not support what he said, but I do not think it is fair to suggest that due to something said in the past, a person cannot grow or apologies and efforts to make up for that are not sincere.

didnt he say it again after he got cancelled the first time which led to a worse cancelling? doesnt sound like growing to me..

(could be wrong cuz memory is a bit hazzy)

Me personally, no. But if you or anyone else did, and apologized, did something in the community, and changed your language- inwould forgive you. There is literally nothing else he can do. Just like you doing something that someone else may find vile, you still deserve to make it better.

The fact some of you are assessing whether a person deserves a second chance or is sincere with their apology. What kind of God complex do some of you think you possess? If you’re not part of the community he offended then keep your victim take. Do I have to remind you that you’re on a freakin pop forum not the UN table. Please share with us your doctorate degree in perfectionism? I have a feeling that most social warriors on this site are probably vile humans irl who would probs get cancelled in a day. And before I have some white gay quote me on how my post offends their existence and supports racism, go ahead, I know your internet life depends on it.
