As a collector that's sad, instead of burying them maybe they should just hand them out at children's hospitals or orphanages, maybe.

Well, if they didn't cost over R$200 here in Brazil they wouldn't need to do it

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Sending hundreds of thousands of unopened, boxed figures into ****ing landfill is better than gifting them for free or selling them for cheap in a massive flash sale?

Capitalism strikes again

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

The stuff people buy from them is future landfill as well

This!!! Why is literally anything without a practical use allowed to be manufactured from these toxic forever chemicals in friggin 2023?!

The amount of unnecessary plastic crap we still produce just blows my mind. Don’t get me started on those despicable K-cups for coffee :bradley:

The trend is over yup yup

Got some of those meself but I had stopped buying them for about 3 years now. It does feels like addiction, you just can't stop buying even if you don't actually need it.

Any idea exactly which figures are being dumped?

The article says

Alongside having a ton of iconic ranges with characters from Marvel, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and DC, there are also plenty of more obscure series including Pets, Conan O'Brien, NBA, Ad Icons, and more.

If they are celebs or sports players, give them the toys so they can sign and give them to fans. I always thought they were recyclable. Either way, I never understood why some characters needed a toy or even 5 variants. They should have done better research on what characters sell or just made some super limited. I only really have my Countess pop toy.

This. And from a capitalist view, this would probably lead to more sales. Giving the first one for free is something commonly used in marketing. Instead, they want to hold the value of their current items by just trashing the extra. Bad PR and wasted inventory for an item nobody really wants anymore.

Toy/collector companies and their media partners create and order the toys way before it's associated media comes out. Funko, for example, revealed Giant Man (from Ant Man) before the movie even came out.
