I think until i see gay actors get fair representation in playing straight roles.. i’ll continue to feel a little weird about straight people playing in gay roles. Idk it just doesn’t feel like the auditioning playing field is even close to level

Saying there will be hot scenes is a bit of a strange thing to say when announcing a supposedly serious project. Of course I'm excited to see Diego and Jacob getting it on just like any other gay male reading this, but I sure hope this isn't all this film will have to offer.

Don't really have the full context of the quote, but if you're a straight actor about to tell one of our stories, maybe gay-baiting isn't the most respectful thing to do from the get-go.

The thing is I don’t want gay actors in role just bc they’re gay. I’d definitely prefer straight playing gay if they’re good actors because bad acting will take you out of a movie so badly.

Totally agree. There are less gay actors than straight actors - if we limit queer roles to only queer actors, that could easily result in less queer characters in media. I'd rather have more visibility and more variety in stories and perspectives instead of worrying about who's portraying them - I don't require a lived experience from an actor to inform a fictional character 

If it lines up, like Bella Ramsey KILLING it as lesbian icon Ellie on The Last Of Us, then perfect! But if Bella hadn't been interested in that role I would hope whoever got it was as good an actress as she is, whether they're queer in real life or not.

There are other ways queer creatives can be involved in television and film too - what about writers, directors, editors etc? It isn't just about the actor on screen
