Tinnitus15 50,529
She was and IS huge. Like weâre talking about the woman who started the âfandomsâ namesâ and basically Stan Twitter. She came like a thunder. Everyone was talking about her( even in my EXTREMELY conservative country). The whole internet was going wild for her. And then just when everyone thought sheâs over- BAAM ASIB! Itâs true that âNobody does it like Lady Gagaâ.

TEANUS 12,941
You literally couldnât turn on the radio from 2009-2011 without hearing Gaga. 2009 you couldnât go anywhere without hearing Just Dance or Poker Face, and then when those werenât playing they were sprinkling in LoveGame and Paparazzi. Nov 2009 came around and she had two massive songs on the radio from two different albums (BR and Paparazzi). In 2010, Bad Romance was played on virtually every radio station at least a couple times every day. Throughout the year, Telephone took over the US airways and the music video was the biggest thing for WEEKS, and in Europe, Alejandro popped off and became her biggest hit in various countries (parallel maybe only by Poker Face). Then after the VMAs happened you couldnât escape the talk of the meat dress, her upcoming album, and her ongoing massive debut tour. The Monster Ball did THREE separate runs in North America, one in 2009, 2010, and another in 2011 to finish the tour. Going into 2011, Poker Face, Bad Romance, and Paparazzi were still plastered on pop radio and the hype for Born This Way (single) was CRUSHING. Every release that year prior to that single was dwarfed by its impact. At the time it was the biggest radio debut of all time, and with only three days in that tracking week she sold 448,000 copies (no streams were counted, these were ALL full on voluntary purchases) and popped out at number one. The rest of 2011 you couldnât turn on the radio without hearing The Edge of Glory, YoĂź and I, or previous singles (mainly Bad Romance and Poker Face) British social ladies with upturned pinkies, glasses clinking // xoxoTEANUS
SevenWonder 3,912
Biggest pop star on the planet. By far. No female pop star has had a bigger peak since. And I've been told only Madonna had a bigger peak before.
pachinko 10,030
She was bigger than your D.
DrKindnessKunt1999 5,747
She was everywhere, even the extremely unexpected places. I remember going to a Holocaust Museum at a Middle School field trip and the tour guide talked about Gaga and the Born this Way album at one point instead of the history of the Holocaust.  Edit: I forget which song she said was her favorite, it was either Government Hooker, Black Jesus + Amen Fashion, or Bad Kids. Guillaume Hamon 6,027
It seemed like medias were looking for an excuse to talk about her... Everybody and their grandma had an opinion about her and many were confused, never really knowing what to think about her. I remember reading in french magazines that Madonna was the only female singer who reached such a popularity level before. No matter how big other acts were it seemed like she was "the one" kinda...  Mother of Puppies 35,694
I can say this from the perspective of someone who wasn't a real lil monster yet... (I only listened to the music but wasn't a fan of her as a persona at the time) but I did follow her career losely just because there was basically no way not to. lol She was MASSIVE... I remember as a Katycat being kinda jealous that Gaga was basically everywhere even though Katy was a huge deal too at the time, but Gaga definitely had more spotlight...cuz she was edgy, mysterious, "strange" to most people and just different. PunkTheFunk 123,735
Huge. I was around 13-16 during that time. She wasn't that big in 2008, but in late 2008/early-mid 2009 you would hear her on the radio ALLÂ the time (Just Dance, Poker Face, Paparazzi and Love Game). I remember when I entered high school in the fall of 2009 she really blew up and everyone was talking about her. That lasted well into 2010 and early 2011. I would say by the time Marry the Night was released she had faded a bit from the public eye and her music was not doing as well as it used to.
