China is introducing a 30 days Payed Marriage Leave (month long honey moon of you will) to encourage more couples to tie the knot and start families and raise babies

 

China along with Japan and South Korea are looking for aggressive measures to try to contain a collapse in birth rates that are down to about half the replacement level required to keep population flat

 

Birth rates this far below the replacement level leave a long term demographic pyramid where a society has a lot more old people to take care of than young workers resulting in severe strains in healthcare, pension systems and a shrunken tax base relative to Population size to take care of

China has risen their minimum wage many times in a span of just a few years and they have a fast growing middle class

 

It's not like the government is purposely trying to keep their people poor. In fact for some time they been focusing on growing the consumption part of the economy like service sector and retail which requires consumer income 

 

Wages are always low when a country isn't fully industrialized or developed which China has been coming out of for the past few decades

 

U can criticize the fact their government is authoritarian but I don't think the cheap labor criticism is warranted. The government isn't trying to keep their wages low

Well circumstances have changed

 

But yeah that 1 child policy was too strict and kept in place way too long
