Oh wow you're telling me that the only european countries ex-USSR member states that haven't joined EU yet are still heavily corrupt? (like Moldova and Ukraine). Oh wow! What a shocker. Almost like those countries inherited this corruption culture from the soviets and we should help them get rid of it instead of shaming them. Keep peddling the far right pro-russian talking points that's nice. Also another falsehood claiming U.S supports Azerbaijan literally the U.S house speaker visited Armenia, declaring U.S support for Armenia. Did you forget? How convenient of you to forget

Except Moldova is more democratic than Ukraine. https://www.politico.eu/article/moldova-europe-democracy-bright-spot-report-hungary-poland-human-rights-media-authority/. I am not shaming post-communist countries for being corrupt, but I am bringing up this fact as you claim the US and Ukraine are friends because share ''democratic values''. I mean I get it, but is it a lazy tactic? yes. Can you pretend it's true so you don't have to change your worldview to accomodate new facts? also yes. 5 minutes ago, Dennis said: While we're at it, what weapons did Armenia receive? Was Azerbaijan placed under sanctions? Or this time US foreign policy interests dictacted something else? Did this generous good-seeking US send aid to earthquake torn Syria? To Ethiopia who lost half a million people during its ongoing civil war? Do you even know who is fighting who in Ethiopia, or no because we don't have an established narrative and no interests in the region?

Corruption Score: Ukraine 33/100 Moldova 39/100 https://www.transparency.org/en/cpi/2022 A country does not become a democracy overnight. What is important is whether such a country is putting itself on the right path or not, rooting out corruption, organizing free and fair elections etc. Since 2014 (Maidan revolution), Ukraine gained 8 points, despite all the war problems that engulfed the country since then. Moldova also gained 4. But anyway, not wasting more time, you'll always find mental gymnastics and move the goalpost as usual.

There is no objective way to measure corruption or democracy. One site will say Moldova is more corrupt, one will say Ukraine. Point is, all ex-USSR contries are kind of the same. And funny that you are talking about mental gimnastics when this was brought up because you believe US and Ukraine's friendship is based on the fact that they share democracy. And don't forget to answear what did this generous US done to help - Syria after the earthquake - Ethiopia in its civil war (half a million casualities compared to around 9k civil deaths in Ukraine per Reuters January 2023 https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/over-9000-civilians-killed-ukraine-since-russia-invaded-kyiv-2023-01-17/)

Fuffy 1,049
I think all the points made in this thread show how paradoxically complex and simple international relations can be. In my own interests, I'd rather the US be the dominant military, cultural and economic superpower than the other options available. It's a trade off and I think for all its faults, the US would "behave" among the best. I wouldn't want to live in the US, but I'd much rather live in a world where it has power over Russia or China, and even India. It's in the self-interest of Europe and the US to protect Ukraine, which isn't a bad thing given Russia is volatile.

Our aid is a drop in the bucket. That money and those resources are going towards foiling the plots of a dictator and saving Ukrainian lives. If you wanna be mad about US tax payer dollars going to waste, point your anger towards the rich d*cks in this country that cost tax payers billions upon billions simply because they're greedy. It's just for Israel to pretend that they're helping Ukraine When Russia is pretending that Ukraine is harboring neo-nazis, the symbolism of Israel sending aid might just be enough for someone to question the lies Putin is spreading. In the long term, it's an extremely cheap investment that will leave the Russian army withered for years to come. That's a huge benefit to all Americans.
