Stephen 30,426
So apparently the ancient Greek philosopher Plato wrote that there were different types of love that were symbolized by different accounts of the birth of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. One version says that Aphrodite was created out of the god Uranus' semen, a birth in which "female has no part", therefore representing love between men. Spoiler Yes I just read this on Wikipedia. Future Lovers 6,927
Perhaps, but I think the sexuality of the ancient Greeks in general was fluid and that extended to their mythology. Ancient Greece had a very open view of sex and few if any of them fell into one specific categorization of sexuality. Homosexuality was a widely practiced custom and was depicted in their art quite frequently. It wasn't until the days of the Roman empire that there began to be certain connotations with homosexuality. They still practiced it and widely so, but it was considered to be less acceptable in Rome than in Greece, especially if you were a bottom.

I think the sculpture represents Hermaphroditus, the child of the gods Hermes and Aphrodite. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermaphroditus If you don’t have any shadows, you’re not standing in the light.
