Iran 6% away from nuclear weapons

As if the world didn't know more dumpsterfire, now UN Atomic Watchdog say that Iran is only 6% away from reaching a nuclear bomber enrichment level, which is a stated  red line for Israel and the U.S.

nspectors from the UN atomic agency discovered uranium enriched to 84% purity in Iran last week, a level just below that needed for nuclear weapons, Bloomberg reported Sunday, citing two unnamed senior diplomats. Until now, Iran had been known to have enriched uranium to 60%, while a purity of 90% is needed to produce nuclear weapons.

I just can't help but feel that WW3 is coming. We have three criseses converging, Ukraine, Iran and Taiwan. :saladga:

Rich of them to decide on what is and isn't a red line lol

Honestly. Not that I support nuclear armament but it is hilarious coming from the U.S. or Israel. Weapons of mass destruction for me, but not for thee, much?

But like what is this supposed to mean honestly? Regardless of what you think of U.S and Israel, you seriously don't think that a race to nuclear weapons, especially by reckless regimes who openly threaten to use them to wipe out other countries is a good idea right?

There are already enough nukes in the world to completely wipe out humanity. And forget about Israel and U.S. Saudi Arabia, UAE etc may all want nuclear weapons because they'd feel threatened by their rival.

Of course I don't think it is a good idea. I believe in nuclear power only for providing energy, and nothing more. However, this doesn't change the fact that the U.S. and Israel worked extremely hard to destabilize Middle East for many years, and now they do not get to be surprised or outraged at things like this.

I live in Turkey, and want no nuclear weapons in the Middle East at all, but thanks to NATO there are U.S. nuclear weapons in this country too, which is frightening in the case of a U.S. vs Iran thing. I don't trust anyone with nuclear weapons, not the U.S., not Iran, not Russia, not Israel, not my own country. But if the U.S. and Israel keeps their hostility, endless sanctions and embargos, etc. of course Iran will build nuclear weapons. Why wouldn't they?

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

World's bullies (US, Israel, Russia, China) already have nukes. I am not going to loose sleep if the list extends with one more bully.

The sanctions and the embargos are mostly mandated by U.N resolutions as a response to the start of this nuclear program in 2006 by the way. There were 9 resolutions to this effect.

And hostilities existed throughout the history of humanity, doesn't mean that countries should now race to nuclear weapons because of the existence of hostile nations. 10K+ nuclear heads in this world is already enough. If anything they should be collectively decommisioned.

You are preaching to the choir, sis. It's not like I support Iran, I just don't think this is surprising in any way, and I also think that most conflicts in this region are directly related to U.S. and Israel, especially considering that it was the U.S. who withdrew from the nuclear deal. Not that I believe no one would secretly work against the deal otherwise, but still.

I agree with both of these tbh

On the one hand it's hypocritical of the US to never want others to develop what the US already has. I mean really, if it's so immoral get rid of your own as well. Oh yeah I forgot, you never will!

On the other hand yeah, the more ppl develop it the worse it is especially unstable parts of the world, regardless of who already has it

If the nuclear apocalypse comes, all countries will get destroyed without discrimination.

Hope this makes you 😍 feel better 😍.

We have to be sensical with our expectations. How can the U.S just casually destroy its nuclear deterrant without other countries doing so? It's just not gonna happen. And it's the sensible position to not disband them until China and Russia also agree to do so. Otherwise, U.S would be exposing itself to nuclear blackmail.

This is what bothers me about politics these days, people are more interested in "gotcha" arguments and whataboutism, rather than realistic and reasonable proposals.

More nukes in this world is objectively a terrible thing that could lead to the extinction of humanity. Yes there are already nuclear countries, doesnt mean that "nuclear equality" should be a goal now.

The only solution there is if humanity becomes civilized enough to collectively denuclearize. But no single nation will take such step on its own without the others doing so.

An Anerican would talk to you about Pax Americana (the idea of an unchallenged dominant force which acts like a policing force which in turn makes wars unlikely to really occur). But then if Iran gets nukes it means Azerbaijan will no longer attack Armenia and Israel would probably diminished its attacks on Syria. It works both ways..
