Twitter Becomes First Social Media That Allows Cannabis Ads In USA Region

Twitter on Wednesday became the first social media platform to allow cannabis companies to market their brands and products in the United States.

The company had earlier only allowed advertising for hemp-derived CBD topical products, while other social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok follow a "no cannabis advertising policy" as pot remains illegal at the federal level.

However, more states in the United States are moving towards allowing the sale of recreational cannabis, with 21 already on board.

Twitter said it will permit cannabis companies to advertise, as long as they have proper license, pass through its approval process, only target jurisdictions where they are licensed to operate and most importantly, do not target people below 21 years.

Most pot companies were quick to embrace the changes suggested by Twitter. Trulieve Cannabis Corp (TRUL.CD) already launched a multistate campaign on the platform on Wednesday.

Ppl can do what they want but I'm personally not for advertising stuff that in general is not good for u... 

 

That includes cigarettes, alcohol, fast food, energy drinks etc etc etc

 

Ppl can seek stuff out in moderation or alternative reasons like pain relief on their own if they wish without advertising needing to tell them it's available, ppl already know. Promoting it and keeping it in ppls minds and encouraging higher consumption in my opinion is not a good thing

 

I always wondered if North America would have as much of an obesity problem if companies like McDonald's were not allowed to advertise just like cigarettes.

 

I'm not saying ban burgers, french fries, pot or alcohol. But advertising it doesn't do public health any favours imo

Obesity is going to be an issue until healthy alternatives are cheaper than junk food. Everyone assumes it's just people being lazy when they choose to get most of their diet from restaurants. But truthfully most of the trash food is noticeably cheaper than anything comparable.

Yes I'm aware of the economic factor, I never said it was pure laziness... But that industry grew like crazy...

 

Part of the reason it's as cheap as it is relative to healthy food is also because of how big an industry it has become in the first place.

 

The fast food industry would not be able to operate and provide food this cheaply vs healthier restaurants or what ever if it wasn't for scale

 

Also that's relative to other establishments. A fast food meal still costs more than a lot of home cooked meal options so I only half agree with what ur saying.

 

Unless u mean cheap at home unhealthy food vs healthy at home healthy food in which case I agree with u it's nuts that bad food is cheaper

It also doesn't help that there are many, many food deserts in our country located in low-income areas where the only option available is the poisonous stuff. It's a complex and purposeful occurrence that can't be fixed with a change in marketing, but I agree that there should be stipulations put in place. The USA is just a deeply disturbing place. I almost said broken, but I guess it can't really be broken of it was designed to work this way 🙃

Any unhealthy food is cheaper than a half decent alternative. If I were to make meals at home (for myself, household of 1) the cost would be around $100 a week for healthy balanced meals. Alternatively, I could eat out all week for probably $70. I could, if I really wanted to, cut my grocery bill down to $20-30 a week if I made a lot of pasta, rice, or other grains. But that's not sustainable. One of my easy meals, since I work 12 hour shifts with an hour commute each way, is a frozen pizza. But at this point ordering a pizza from a restaurant is the same price as a frozen pizza. Prices are getting to the point where people are much more incetivized to eat trash. Based on convenience AND price.

The US is so funny sometimes from the outside.. McDonalds and in general eating out is so expensive here where I live compared to just going for groceries and cooking a bigger batch at home. Organic food is at every single Discounter widely available and usually costs roughly the same. The only expensive thing to buy is meat, which funny enough isn’t that great for you to eat anyway 😅
