Idaho House passes ban on gender-affirming medical care

The bill now goes to the Senate, where a similar gender-affirming care ban died last year. At the time, the Idaho Senate Republicans issued a statement saying they strongly oppose gender-affirming surgery for children but feared the bill could affect medically necessary care for non-transgender kids, and they did not want to interfere in parents’ medical decision-making authority.

I hope they block it from passing. Hey Biden can we work on protecting LGBTQ+ from a federal level? Is that even possible now with our congress? Should have been done before the election.

Oh goodness. Why don’t these morons focus on something productive? Trans people have existed for ages in different cultures and they will be around as long as humans exist. They need to get over their ignorance. This fictitious fear they have been fed by other ignorant jerks has got to stop. Let people live their lives, they aren’t hurting you.

It baffles me how this “pro life” “all lives matter” “freedom” party really goes out of their way to persecute innocent people.

What do we do if these children change their minds by the time they are 20? Since they are talking about kids I assume they mean pre-puberty.

Gender-affirming medical care is not limited to hormones and surgery.
If I'm not mistaken, children often get blockers, which pauses puberty. If the child changes their mind, they stop the blockers and puberty just goes on according to their biological sex.

It’s pretty rare someone changes their mind and even if they did - there’s no real damage done.  The first step when an older child or teenager says they want to change genders is delaying puberty with medication.  This doesn’t do any damage as if you stop taking them, puberty will kick back in.  I don’t believe there’s been a single case where delaying puberty has had a strong negative impact on anyone.

I don't think it's that rare. But, lets say it is rare, we still need a solution for these kids if they choose to go through surgery and actually take hormones but then realizes this was a horrible idea, what do we do then? Even if you're on puberty blockers alone, what would the outcome be if you decide to go through puberty during your late teens instead of your early teens? There's so much uncharted territory here.

Stats show at most 8% of people “detransition” and a large majority of those people do it before any surgery so yes it is actually incredibly rare for someone to detransition after they’ve had invasive surgery.  This isn’t uncharted territory, it’s been studied, there’s multiple reports and data.

Still, what about the kids that do change their minds?

So we’re going to force the 92% that don’t detransition to go through puberty, watch their body change in ways they don’t want to and do untold harm to their mental health because a slither of the 8% that start blockers would go on to regret surgery?  That’s unbelievably cruel.

That's not even what I am saying. I am asking, what do we do about the kids who do change their mind? They are valid too. That's still 8% of kids who (potentially) have physically damaged themselves for the rest of their lives and god knows what kind of mental problems might stem from that too, not being able to fully change back to your biological sex. Not to mention that so much can go wrong while you're still developing too.

Of course they’re valid?  I’m not sure what you’re trying to ask/insinuate though - they’d also go back down the road of gender affirming surgery.  That’s what it is, gender affirming surgery.

It’s not just trans kids/adults that get it.  For example, men who grow breast tissue and want it removed; that’s gender affirming surgery.  All sorts of hormone imbalances would need to be corrected with gender affirming surgery, same with accidents that cause disfigurement to genitals, breasts etc…

Yes and there have been cases of regret and sometimes these children face serious health complications. Heck  sometimes there can be media or peer pressure to influence/condition children/teens to transition. This was the case for me and a friend. I think liberalism and the left are taking things too far. You don’t firmly figure out your identity as young as 5, 10 or 15. There’s a bunch of  sick corporates who are making millions if not billions off gender medical care and for a fact they could care less about how sure you are or any health complications you face.
