Ellie Goulding revealed she was recently told she’s too old to be on the cover of a certain magazine.

Without outing the publication, she shared on her Instagram Story on Tuesday, “I got told earlier that I can’t be on a particular magazine cover to promote my album because I am over 30.” 

The 36-year-old singer will release her new album, Higher Than Heaven, on March 24.

Thats ridiculous. 

I remember watching one of the Variety or Hollywood Reporter TV roundtables once, and Christina Applegate got told she was too old for a cover when she was about 40 or so. And that was 10-15 years ago. It's unsettling that they've pushed back that age barrier even further to age 30. It's also insane because these print magazines are dying, and the youths are never going to buy them like the older gens, so they might as cater to the audience they have now rather than chase away the older customers still buying them. Like, those weekly tabloids that put Jen Aniston and Jolie on the cover like its 2005 know whats up way more than these monthly magazines who try to put people like Emma Chamberlain on the cover and wonder why their sales are so pitiful.

im pretty sure if that were lady gaga, beyonce, katy perry, rihanna, taylor swift..that magazine publication will not hesitate to put these women on the cover of the magazine.

As a 41-year-old woman, I'm triggered. Who cares what magazine it is. Even if it was Babies Monthly it would still be ageism.

Seriously though, society needs to stop acting like women are "too old" after 30. Our obsession with youth is frankly unhealthy and hurtful.
