Not the thread title saying rihanna won just cuz she had the highest views, there's no acclaim to her performance and its pretty much giving mixed - unfavourable reviews

So apparently it was watched by only 113 but they are being very deceptive by releasing the combined views including digital and thus saying 118. It’s actually super deceptive as usually the digital viewrship is revealed later and this time they are just releasing the combined and acting like it beat records. I’m sure the real figures will be released soon enough.

Is ratings the best way to measure this? What if some years it's better teams? Isn't it better to look at who has the biggest increase compared to the game? As that measures the success of the show rather than the whole game.

Viewers were clearly tuning in to see her perform after all these years, that was the ultimate draw. And when figures are that tight, it makes no difference. Figures on the night don't matter, it's how many views and memories it generates after the fact. The figures are highly dependent on which teams are playing in the first place. That's the main reason for why I believe the figures for the last few shows were surprisingly low. I mean, the top 2 most viewed and liked performances on the NFL YouTube channel are the Shakira/J-Lo one (268m) and the hip hop collective (166m) and yet both those performances were several million views less than Katy's and Gaga's on tv. They were perhaps unlucky with lesser successful teams playing? But regardless, both performances were highly spoken of the next day and were entertaining enough that they pulled a lot of people back in for repeat views. Rihanna's YouTube views are high now but that's because she's only just performed. Those will die down soon because it wasn't interesting enough to gain repeat views in years to come. Gaga still remains the most viewed solo performer in NFL history on their official YouTube channel and also, she has the same video on her official channel, which, when combined, would make her the second most viewed act by YouTube views (and third most liked). So far, it looks like Rihanna isn't uploading her own version, so Gaga will still have the YouTube crown for sure. Already I'm seeing comments on her videos that they come back to watch her show every year to remind themselves of how good the halftime show can be. That right there is what means that, regardless of views on the night, she stays winning.

@JustTea Wow! I had no idea that they took all platforms into account. I don't know why this isn't brought up more. Considering how watching traditional tv is becoming less common, online views should totally count as well.

This has very little to do with who the Halftime show performer is and more to do with which teams are playing. Nice to brag if you're a Rihanna stan but Katy had the biggest and started flopping right after 

Katy also performed it when she was without a doubt the biggest popstar on the planet though

She didnt "flop" until witness 2 years later. Prism was huge with 2 #1 monster hits and a gigantic tour. Her biggest tour ever. She was the undisputed pop queen of the moment.

The performance took place in 2015, both the last two singles from Prism were released prior to that and flopped (Birthday and This Is How We Do) and then after the Super Bowl performance she released Rise which bombed as well. Then she released Witness in 2017. If she was the biggest in 2015 her singles wouldn't have flopped the way they did. I remember this vividly because when the fifth single flopped like it did I was already smelling her irrelevancy from a mile away and then the Super Bowl happened and then Rise. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift was smashing with 1989 and Blank Space at the time. And Beyoncé was Beyoncé. 

2015 was the beginning of her downfall. Do your research.

She was still in the middle of her most successful tour ever and performed both Dark Horse and Roar, two smash hits from her latest and at the time current album. Saying she performed as she was already flopping is far from the truth.
