I have to admit it was bad at best. 

Literally nothing happened for 13 minutes…

She didn’t even bother making an entrance, the cameras started rolling and she was just there in the middle of the stadium, no live vocals, no dance moves, no energy, no evolution, no costume change or twist or whatever, it was so empty

With her performance at the SB for me it was clear that she doesnt care about music anymore so i dont know exactly which return are u talking about lol

My friend said that it’s the most boring Super Bowl she ever watched. The only interesting thing was platforms. She’s been to Rihanna concert once.

What I’ve heard is all about her pregnancy tbh. I haven’t heard anyone actually trash her performance.

I just watched and it's pretty un memorable, which is too bad because this really could've been a great moment for her career. This really solidifies that she just doesn't care about music anymore, which is ok. She really didn't even try to hid the lip-syncing though, even in the first minute yikes.

The direction and camera work is like one of the best for halftime shows (definitely better than Gaga's), but the setlist and the performance are... underwhelming. I think it has to do with her urban/r&b music.

Well, I can't say I was surprised with what we got. But her pregnancy was truly unexpected. But I think so much could have been done to accommodate it. If you can't dance, at least make it all about the vocals, props, special guests and visuals. Her vocals were average at best, she was clearly lipsyncing a lot and apart from the Diamonds finale, her voice wasn't great. It was just the same stage not switched up at all, the same dancers, no costume changes for anyone (remember how many costume changes Gaga's dancers had?), the setlist was over-stuffed and put in songs that weren't good enough and a complete lack of guest stars was shocking. As most of you have said, Rihanna isn't known for being a great live performer, which, when doing the SB has always translated as "use guest stars to back you up and make you look better." Jay and Drake provided her with some of the biggest hits of her career so why she didn't bring either of them out is a mystery. It would have been a welcome distraction from her lack of enthusiasm. It's super rare for an halftime performer to do a completely solo show, even the legends pull in help. Gaga could do it solo because she's got it all - the voice, the instrumental ability, the dancing, the stage presence, the showmanship. But Rihanna has never excelled in any area of performing, her skills in every area are average at best. Whoever thought she could pull off an excellent show completely on her own with a stripped-back set, particularly while being pregnant, really needs their business skills examined. Seriously, it takes a team of people to put together a SB show. A team of people thought this setlist, choreography and overall set was good enough, this was all signed off on. I'm thinking she likely got pregnant after signing on the dotted line and the show had to be re-arranged a bit. I have a hard time believing that this was the original conception. It's giving "thrown together at the last minute" vibes.

What gets me is, we've seen women in music recently perform while in advanced stages of pregnancy and do amazingly. Beyonce famously did a Grammys performance with a huge belly and it was curated so that she didn't have to move much but still put on a great show because she made it about vocals, visuals and emotion. Katy Perry was performing right through her pregnancy and held her own despite no dancing through better vocals, visuals and lots of heart and enthusiasm. Pregnancy isn't something that makes you unable to perform well, women have doing hard labour while pregnant since the dawn of time. If you're a naturally good and enthusiastic performer, you can still slay. The issue is, Rihanna doesn't care anymore. Pregnant or not, it seems clear her heart hasn't been in it for some time.

I've watched this a couple times now and that's more than I ever watched Katy's but that's probably because I enjoy Rihanna's music so much more than Katy's discography. Idk what people were expecting from her, she has never really been about props or costume changes, jumping around or visuals. One of my favorite parts is Rude Boy and I'm surprised she went for BBHMM and Pour It Up, lots of songs surprised me but it was a killer setlist and the floating stage was incredible.
