Byron Donalds: "I believe in spanking"

Child abuse =/= discipline

Hitting a kid does nothing but instill resentment, fear, and sometimes violent tendencies of their own.

If you are smart enough or patient enough to raise a child without raising your hands to that child then you shouldn't be a parent. No exceptions.

I was threatened with spanking when I was a kid. I think culturally it is something everyone did or threatened kids with back in Asia and it was the same with my classmates when I was growing up. I think it really depends on the parent. If it is used by itself and without explanation or love then I think that is bad. Im not scared of my parent or traumatized. I just know that western way of parenting is different from what i am used to.

But then really how to raise your child is so personal.

I personally wont resort to spanking if/when i do get a child but I wont condemn parents for doing it as well.

There’s honestly some kids that don’t get spankings and the parents can’t control them, usually it’s the kid poking or prodding mom or cussing or screaming.   There’s a time and place for spanking but it shouldn’t be solely a form of punishment more of a last resort

Science and research has proven time and time again that spanking does way more harm than good.

only lazy ass parents who don’t want to put the work into actual parenting do it, smh

if u cant discipline a child without hitting them, YOU DONT DESERVE TO HAVE KIDS

Some kids are literal monsters though, not saying they should be hit obviously, but the parents are not necessarily responsible for the way the child acts

I saw this little girl at Mc Donald’s the other day…. And OH MY GOD I can’t believe the parents didn’t kill themselve or their kid

Poor kids. I hope they don’t carry any trauma into adulthood. I hope they overcome it and eventually reach an age that they can explain to their father of his flaw in disciplining them. Men like this are arrogant and stubborn so I wish he would realize the potential ongoing harm his archaic ways are.

...the ONLY people responsible for the way a child acts is their parents. Kids are not born monsters, their upbringing makes them into those.

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

I think it matters per child. I didn't think I'd ever do it but once my nephew acted up really badly and didn't respond to multiple verbal warnings, which was out of character.

I felt terrible but he learned the lesson and I never had to do it again. So it paid off and he understood my authority, which was important so I could keep him safe.

What people forget is that kids are constantly pushing boundaries as part of their development. So sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.

It's not my tactic of choice but I won't judge parents on doing it as long as it's appropriate and is an exception rather than a rule.
