Bonkers 29,060
~13% of Americans are black. so ~6.5% are black women so mathematically that demographic should have won 1.95 times in 30 years. The only reason it's too low is because without a doubt black women are disproportionately musically talented compared to the rest of us. Not to sound shady but I wonder how relevant racial representation really is though in one specific Grammy field. Especially as the US continues to become more and more racially diverse, how many times does a black female artist need to win this award per so and so year so it’s not sus? And when do they squeeze in a win for men of Hispanic descent like Bruno Mars, or women of Asian descent like Norah Jones? Not to mention white artists and black men who still dominate popular culture. What happens if someone like Halsey wins, does she count as a black woman? So many questions. Regardless, Lizzo deserves this win.
