Good news from Namibia! During the expedition undertaken in the summer of 2022 in the Sacalin area of the Danube Delta by the team of the ringing station Agigea Bird Observatory, we ringed several specimens of turnstones (Arenaria interpres), shorebirds that search for food by turning over various materials with their beaks, (hence the English name “turnstone”).

A few days ago, we received the excellent news that a specimen ringed by us on 31.08.2022 was photographed in southern Africa, on the Luderitz Peninsula in Namibia, on 17.12.2022. Thus, the bird traveled no less than 8042 km in 108 days, representing the longest known distance traveled so far by any bird ringed by the Agigea Bird Observatory team.
