Arestovich-Zelensky drama

Context: Arestovich was a very popular adviser of Zelensky, everybody that was following updates regarding the war knew him. He was involved in a scandal after saying in an interview that the bombing of a residential Dnipro was caused by an Ukrainian air defence. He afterwards apologized and resigned Source- https://meduza.io/en/news/2023/01/17/oleksiy-arestovich-resigns-as-advisor-to-zelensky-s-office

Link to the interview that triggered his resignation:

Now we have many videos of him circulating and it seems he was embraced into the (pro-)Russian sphere. In one of them calls Zelensky weak and dominated by the lack of self love and fear :bear:.. He also seems to have a more softer stance on Ukraine's treatment of regional languages and the Orthodox Church which is surprising given he seemed to be one of the most hardliner Ukrainian politicians.

Sidenote: One side effect of the war going on for year is that the political inner circles of both Russia and Ukraine will start to shows cracks because people will start showing their different stances on various things (we had a similar story regarding Vitali Klitschko in the past).

FYI, these are pro-russian accounts. I'd take things they say with a grain of salt. I don't speak russian and I can't verify the veracity/context of these claims and the dates of such videos (I doubt they're recent).

He did however claim that he thought the missile was brought down by Ukrainian air defense, but after a video was published showing the missile dive and impact, he issued an apology and even decided to donate to the victims of the apartment building that was hit by Russia.

Obviously russian shills want to make it appear like there's drama. But I don't think there's beef between him and Zelensky. He made a mistake, issued a sincere apology and assumed responsability by resigning like civilized politicians do. To my knowledge Zelensky didn't even address this at all.

I do agree that he used to be more pro-russia than the typical ukrainian politicians, but definitely not after the war started. For example he claimed that the U.S was fearmongering and that Russia was not going to attack. But that was his opinion. People can be wrong sometimes.

Except that the West has radars and spy planes in the area, and as it happened with the polish missile they're able to determine if it's a ukrainian air defense or a russian missile one. In this case, the british intelligence deemed it highly likely to be a missile launched from a Tu-22M. It's not a guessing game you know.

It's this. When it was Ukr air defense, the West and journalists basically said so from the start or refused to say it was Russia's weapon (still technically Russia's fault, tho, as Ukr air defense wouldn't have been a thing if they hadn't been under attack) until it was investigated. A journalist-kind of like what happened here but in reverse-got in trouble for claiming it was a Russian weapon when it was Ukr air defense and was fired.

In this case, however, pretty much everyone agrees it was a Russian weapon. There's no reason for Western govts. and journos to lie when they were upfront about it being Ukr air defense in a previous incident. Arestovich just made comments that were way too premature. Even Leonid Rogozin, a journo who is against the war but is seen as way too soft and a bit of a Russian apologist, backtracked and said it was a Russian weapon which hit the building in Dnpiro.

Also, agree that one can't rely on these accounts which are pretty clearly a) pro Russian propaganda or b) not from reliable/legitimate outlets. If one's looking for a leftist, progressive take there are several good reporters on twitter who discuss the issues even if they aren't on the ground (they speak Ukr or Russian) like David Klion, etc. and who don't parrot Russian propaganda.

Plus, as you said, a lot of pols were arguably 'soft' on Russia pre the re-invasion & these are old clips...Russia just confused 'soft' and not 'a fan of NATO (although that's changed)' with wanting to be part of Russia (which they decidedly did not want). If anything, ironically, as I'm sure you know, Russia has managed to turn a lot of Ukr politicians and politicians from the area into being somewhat soft on them to be vehemently against Russia due to everything over the past year and the actions in Syria, etc.

Basically this. The pro-Russian sphere is clinging onto this because it's a slip up on Ukraine's part. But it has already been addressed by Arestovich resigning. It's not a sign of a major shift and I would even say I'm glad that Zelensky has people that give him multiple perspectives in his circle.

It is known that Zelensky was viewed as a somewhat weak politician before the war began but that's when he stepped up and these clips are old.

The constant attack on Ukraine by Ffffff continues.

What do you have against Ukraine? Why so defensive of Russia and spreading divisive posts about Ukraine? Russia is responsible for the Dnipro apartment building being destroyed, just like they’re responsible for the hundreds of innocent civilians found in mass graves in Bucha, Irpin, etc, civilians found with gun shot wounds to their heads, their arms bound behind their backs, and proof of being beaten. Russians are also responsible for ransacking Ukrainian civilians’ homes, stealing from them, destroying their properties, locking Ukrainians in basements, only allowing them out for 20 minutes a day, raping young Ukrainian women and launching missiles at schools and killing over 200 children.

instead of spreading RuZZian propaganda, videos from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty should be shared on here…. Videos like this one.

This. It's funny because these people claim Zelensky is a ukrainian nationalist with extreme anti-russian views. But now these same people will tell you all about how he had an advisor with pro-russian views who's been advising him up until few days ago when he offered his own resignation after he made a mistake.

If anything, this is a testament to how diverse Zelensky's advisory team is. And it's a good thing.
