I think the extreme overexposure, tough competition and of course the BTW Ball cancellation only contributed to the commercial decline she faced halfway through this era and through the ARTPOP era. Delaying it would have given her the chance to select her singles more carefully, shoot videos beforehand, etc. Gaga and her label seemed to change their minds A LOT throughout this era and I think a lot had to do with Interscope being extremely hesitant with the budget. BORN THIS WAY (2011 January) 2. MARRY THE NIGHT (2011 March, released on Gaga's birthday) Promo Single: Judas (2011 April) 3. THE EDGE OF GLORY (2011 May) -------------album release (2011 May)-------------- 4. HAIR (2011 August) 5. YOU AND I (2011 November) 6. SCHEISSE ft. Kendrick Lamar (2012 February) 7. JUDAS (2012 May) 8. HEAVY METAL LOVER (2012 July) 9. BLOODY MARY (2012 October, Halloween Release) This would allow the radio-friendly hits to excel in the beginning of the era: BTW, TEOG, HAIR and YOU AND I. Whilst the more singles (and quite frankly more odd, less radio-friendly) songs released would gain less commercial success as people would've already bought the album and still could have potential to be minor hits. Regardless, she'd serve great visuals for the songs and I'm sure they'd gain widespread attention over time just like Bloody Mary now has. Bloody Mary could've become her Halloween classic and a low-key hit for its Halloween notoriety akin to Mariah's All I Want For Xmas for Christmas. Judas would probably achieve some decent chart peaks and top 10s as a promo single given the hype at the time, so she'd still get it as a top 10 or whatever, but releasing it as an official single later down the line with that video would gain the album/era/song more attention and chart longevity. I also think a radio-friendly version of Scheisse with Kendrick Lamar featuring would be cool, especially given his GP popularity and their friendship during 2011-2013. I initially thought Nicki Minaj but it's clear I don't think Gaga's a fan lol. I doubt HML and BM would even touch the top 50 in the US at that point but who cares?? I think this way she could've easily secured 5-7 top ten singles in the US and tbh these songs deserve it. Scheisse feat. Kendrick Lamar sounds WILD We have forgotten our public MANNERS
RichAssPiss 4,872
Scrap the "Born This Way" concept, which aged poorly and feels too obvious. Instead focus on actual abuses and oppression among queer people, immigrants, POC, children of religious homes. The politics of "Born This Way" without the platitudes. The album is called Electric Chapel, the musical direction is church music mixed with EDM and heavy metal guitars. Part ELECTRIC and part CHAPEL. It's about creating a sanctuary for herself and her fans to be together, like a church. "My religion is you." Tracklist: 1. Electric Chapel 2. Marry the Night 3. Judas 4. Bloody Mary 5. Black Jesus 6. Government Hooker 7. Americano 9. Scheiße 9. Heavy Metal Lover 10. Highway Unicorn 11. Yoü and I 12. Edge of Glory Singles: Marry the Night Judas Yoü and I Edge of Glory The videos and imagery would focus on song titles as character types. Like Judas (the betrayer), Bloody Mary (the distraught widow), Government Hooker (the mistress), Heavy Metal Lover (metal girlfriend). They'd be framed as different shades of herself and different "mothers" (divine feminine clergy) in the Electric Chapel. Aesthetic is still lo-fi punk and leather but with religious overtones. Think: a stage design that's like a steel-beam infrastructure of a chapel but mostly bare (sort of in the spirit of Rent's broadway staging which is all scaffolding and Metal walkways standing in for fire escapes in NYC). 27monster27 12,408
1. Don't do the third overall North American leg of the Monster Ball. At the bare minimum only the Latin American dates should happen in 2011, but even that is stretching it IMO. 2. Don't overhype the album. The announcement of a new era should honestly be like the Sweetener era; she only needs to announce the lead single ~one week prior to the era beginning. 3. Don't over promote the era. No Farmville, less (unnecessary) performances, and less magazine covers. This will minimize overexposure. She doesn't need to do The Fame level promotion. That only happened during The Fame because she needed her name out there more. The Fame Monster had much less promotion and she was very successful during that era off her being Lady Gaga alone. I'd also give a little bit more into her want to have the era be a bit more stripped down. People were already having enough of her "cRAzYneSS" by the end of 2010. An era with less "extreme" visuals wouldn't be harmful. 4. Era plan: February 2011 - Born This Way Album Release Late April Late April/Early May 2011 - The Edge of Glory August 2011 - You & I November 2011 - Marry The Night February 2012 - Heavy Metal Lover April/May 2012 - Fashion of His Love (or Bad Kids with the extended version being sold later to boost longevity) Born This Way Ball: April 2012 - March 2013 Lady Gaga's management actually listens to her when she complains about being in pain so she can get medical treatment that allows her to finish the North American leg. (She had a month long break before the final leg, that combined with her injury being less severe at the time makes it that much more possible for her to complete the tour.) Possible Collabs: While these are more ARTPOP leaning, I think a collab on Zedd's debut album would be cool. For the sake of realism it would have to be either "Follow You Down" or "EPOS"; the document leak revealed that she wanted these two songs for ARTPOP but nothing happened with them. I would also keep B!tch Don't Kill My Vibe on Kendrick's album. I know that the collabs feel through because other managements thought that she would be "tOo GaY" for rap fans, but I think the song I mentioned staying as a collab would be nice. he/him/his
