Preston Stewart (former US military who I think is a reliable analyst) said: I feel like Belarus is a wild card right now. Western analysts continue to say they don’t see signs of a coming northern offensive and that the manpower isn’t there to try one. On the other hand, there are constantly pictures coming out showing Russian equipment headed that way. Putin made a state visit along with his foreign and defense minister. Then the day after a new overall commander for the war was named, the man now in charge of the ground forces (Salyukov) traveled to Belarus. That Putin will say ok, stop the missiles and bombs, war is over. He won’t. He’ll just keep going until he’s destroyed Ukraine and claimed it all as Russian territory. And then who’s next? Poland? The war will go on until one side is defeated. Ukraine has made regaining its 1991 borders its explicit goal. This is something which Russia will prevent using all its will and force, meaning Ukraine's goal is to collaps the Russian Federation. This is not going to happen in a year. Ukraine's desire to retake Donbas and all of Crimea (including the Sevastopol naval base which was administered by Russia even after the fall of USSR) make it that the war will not stop in the following couple of years or decade.
