When you look at the restrictions put on women in music, it does. Women have to strive for different objectives put on them by labels, and as an apparent Gaga fan, you should be acutely aware of that.

Complaining about representation "for the sake of it" shows a PROFOUND misunderstanding of what representation means to marginalized people and speaks highly of an individual's lack of empathy.

Not due to lack of understanding. It’s self-explanatory I believe why such extrapolative assumptions are argumentative and doesn’t serve any purpose other than derailing the discussion.

Name dropping societal issues that most of us are aware of and suffer from daily, on a comment that already looks beyond those restrictions seems using those issues purely to the benefit of your speculative argument.

Sad that assumptious approach continues. Just because I am against representation for sake of it doesn’t mean I support keeping awards between white males. Nor that I lack empathy. 
Maybe I am against it because it is unfair for people who deserve the spot but loses it purely due to representation for sake of it to someone who doesn’t even deserve to be there. Awards should be based on merits, product being released. Not based on my skin color or gender or orientation. Putting quotas drives more injustice for participants, far away from preventing it.

Trust me, I know what representation means as a gay, non-white person from a 3rd world country living in the West workingon a straight-dominated industry. It definitely is NOT what you make it out to be.

Little Simz was nominated last year for Artist of the Year and this year wasn't eligible.
Wet Leg are a band and they are nominated for Group of The Year. Artist of the Year was always for solo artists (it was named British Male/Female Solo Artist until 2021).

Umm no. Striving to be 50/50 is what causes discrimination in this case. Adding more women as to fill the quota and have an equal pool of nominees based on gender actively snubs nominations based on talent. Also, I'm not even American and couldn't care less about the degenerates that run your country. The reality of the situation is there are simply more male artists to choose from. It has nothing to do with gender, there are simply MORE men.

The music industry is so male dominated, jmo but I don't know if we're at a point yet to do away with a women's category because women still need that representation and recognition

To be eligible, an artist must have achieved at least one top 40 album or two top 20 singles that were released between 10 December 2021 and 9 December 2022. Little Simz didn't have any album or single on UK charts in the eligibility period.

Just sounds like a lot of waffle to me. I knew this would happen - the first year would work out very well for women and that would lull us into a false sense of security but after that, it would be back to male domination. There's no getting away from the fact that women used to have 5 nominations all of their own under female artist of the year and now, because of neutralising it, they have 0. If you're going to neutralise a category, you have to make sure that this kinda thing doesn't happen, but clearly the committee didn't care. At the very least, extend the number of nominees so that there's a higher likelihood of females getting nominated but keeping it at a measly 5 is just inviting this stuff to happen. Also, aren't the BRITs supposed to be about artistic excellence? So what's with this "there weren't many high profile women making albums last year"? And there are definitely many British females who are more high profile than the men who were nominated, so this makes no sense. Gender neutral awards will only truly work when the industry stops with the sexism and really views female art on the same level as male art. There is no evidence that the world is at that place yet, so until then, women need their own categories, not just to shine but to just be acknowledged that they exist.
