Shocking, Pitchfork has a dismissive response to another female singer/songwriter in pop :alsemanche:

I LOVE the song, Miley always delivers and I can't stop humming the chorus :fthis:

Yeah, She always serves BEST quality! Midnihht Sky was literally my 2nd favaourite song of 2020 right behind Rain On Me.

holy ****.. at this point I wouldn't give a rat's ass about him. moving on is the best revenge

I'm listening to the song, and i really like it. I do want another kick ass rock album from her, but I really like this soft rock from her. It reminds me of Fleetwood Mac and Harry Styles

It just doesn’t sound like a single to me, especially a lead. If this was a b-side track I’d be like fine, it’s okay.

I love the song and I'm just a casual listener, and I'm kinda surprised most of the comments here aren't supportive at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm kinda shocked because I just thought GGD will end up loving the song :spin:

If you go to the thread dedicated to the actual song the praise is through the roof - same on /r/popheads and ATRL. The concentrated negativity in this thread is weird :alsemanche:

I' m still trying to understand the "revenge" concept even if this article is true.

How is this vengeful and not low key coming to terms with the past?

I actually thought it was nice to see a simple, positive, feel good pop song for once. It showed how healthy Miley Cyrus is right now despite what could have been a pretty nasty breakup. For some reason, pop culture in the past five years (not just pop music, hip-hop and alternative as well) has kind of embraced this idea that everything is about revenge, coming out "on top", being better, getting the bag, everything turning out good for oneself....and I think...in some circumstances...it's actually more revealing when an artist says, "Yeah....that really did suck, I wasn't really the best there, or, I'm gonna just do me". It seems like there is this weird kind of irony in pop where everyone wants to talk about not caring about popularity, yet they still want to be popular because of that. Like....sometimes what you make isn't going to be popular....and that is okay.

Often times we create this insane expectations of people (especially pop stars) because we talk about everything having to be "iconic" and "groundbreaking" and the "new thing". But, in reality, even Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga have all had their fare share of boring singles. All the legends have. Didn't mean it was bad. At the end of the day, this is pop music, and some times people are boring, and that is interesting, too.

I actually really dig this as a nice simple spring bop. Maybe she will serve what you wanted on single #2 ala Gaga did with Chromatica...alot of people were iffy about Stupid Love but the consensus was pretty unanimous that Rain on Me was amazing.

I'm not giving up on Miley. She has always delivered in the least expected places and it already seems like an interesting album campaign is on it's way with multiple different singles and visuals.

I am the only one who really likes the song?!

No. I dig it. I just think some fans were expecting some sassy revenge song and instead they got a positive, therapeutic track about self care.

You can tell which fans have been to therapy and which have not based on who is getting something from the track. Keeping Up With The Kardashians Reaction GIF by E!

Miley embodies the bittersweetness of a life as a person that rose to fame and is imprisoned by the conventions that come with it... that's what it has always been and I really love this song as well.. it may be bland but I feel like Miley just represents that blandness that automatically comes for being a Hollywood star and by using it in her art that blandness changes up to a deepness

Pitchfork is only allowed to love Beyonce and Taylor from the MPG list of artists.

Duh. It's written in the contract. :ladyhaha:

Just a reminder to those who need it, a review has nothing to do with you. It’s another person’s opinion, you’re still allowed to have yours, calm down. Flowers exists regardless.

When she posted the preview, I genuinely thought the part she was singing was the verse. Come to find out that's the hook? It's dull. "Midnight Sky" was a slay.

Uh oh the opinion police are here :awkney: lol

edit: fine, I finished the song. And nothing has changed. There’s no remarkable bridge or outro I missed out on just another Vers with the same melody and 2 more choruses lol
