  • This is the 2nd year of the BRIT awards having gender neutral categories
  • There are zero women nominated for artist of the year
  • Of the 10 nominations across arguably the two biggest categories – Best Artist and Best Album – there is one non-male, or non-male authored, nomination
  • Only 33% of nominations have gone to women

The title of the article was a bit loaded so I have changed it to a more fact-based title. The article (which I found on Twitter) is actually worth reading if you have 5 minutes :bionic:

Our society clearly isn't ready for gender neutral awards, it's something that right now needs a lot of change in the minds of the white old men that compose the academies before happening.

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

according to the article the gender-neutral revision was made because sam smith didn't feel they belonged in either the male or female category and would otherwise be excluded.

That's fair but how can we expect the conservative minds behind the scenes to grasp the concept of nonbinary people if they can't even grasp the concept that women can be as good in acting as men or even better?

And that’s why they creates men and female category back to the seventies…

there is no solution w neutral category and no one learn anything about the past…

it’s a man’s world, no matter they tried to looks inclusive

It’s just the wrong year though to introduce it. If it was a year where Dua Lipa, Little Mix, Adele, Jess Glynn etc were dominating the nominees would have looked different.

Our society clearly DOESN'T NEED gender neutral awards. This whole thing is getting ridiculous honestly. It’s causing more division than anything. Even though the motive behind it is to show inclusivity, it’s actually causing segregation and division. How about just have the regular male and female categories and create a one for non-binary artists? But again that shows division because it’s not including their work among their contemporaries who identify as male or female.
