I checked the sound and it looks like applause had a few different trends attached to it over the years; a finger/hand dance, a water bottle drinking challenge and some weird slowed down clapping, but they all seem old and wouldn’t be responsible for this surge now. There's also a trend of people explaining their motivation to do stuff, like "why I push myself so hard for high school grades? I live for the academic validation".
