When you have no idea about music history and Jazz’s impact on desegregation and social equality, you say things like this. Jazz has allowed everyone from African American musicians, gay songwriters, and female audiences + singers (and everyone in between) a place to represent themselves for over a century. What later happens is reality: those things get pushed, shelved or scrapped for whatever reason. This happens all the time even with people around all of you, but you take her every exact word and breath. One of the reasons she now keeps her distance when talking about projects that excite her is just that.
