JRCF29 8,230
*UPDATE* 5:30pm The House has voted by voice to adjourn for the evening. The House will come into session again tomorrow at noon. *UPDATE* 5:10pm A third round of voting has failed to yield a Speaker, with no candidate receiving a majority of the 434 votes cast. A fourth ballot is expected. *UPDATE* 3:19pm After a second round of voting, the U.S. House has again failed to elect a speaker. The two leading vote getters, Reps. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) earned 212 and 203 votes, respectively. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) received 19 votes from anti-McCarthy Republicans. 218 votes are required to win. ** House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, a nine-term representative from California, failed to secure the speaker's gavel in the first round of balloting Tuesday. McCarthy received 203 votes, short of the 218 needed to prevail. Democratic nominee Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) received a plurality of the votes with 212—meaning every Democrat backed him. 19 Republicans, meanwhile, voted against McCarthy. Reps. Andy Biggz (R-Ariz.), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Jim Banks (R-Ind.) and Byron Donalds (Fla.) all received at least one vote in the final tally. Former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) also received one vote. A second ballot is currently underway, marking the first time in a century that no candidate has won a majority after the first round. He’s just been re-elected for a 4 year term in Florida. I do think the nomination will be from the MAGA stem of the party Together You And I!
