I do love Ari but there’s no way she’s a better singer than Gaga.

Where's Chanté Moore? What she did at 3:36 alone should put her top 20.

Tbh Bjork and Nina Simone should be higher. If the list is talking about what the vocalists can evoke with their voices not purely talent than cmon.

I’ll be honest MJ should also be higher. The way he manipulated his voice was something else. He really made it a multi faceted tool. This list has great inclusions on the whole but I’m not really living for the ranking. Bjork should easily be at the same spot as Thom Yorke. Nina Simone the same with Billie holiday imo

It's clear that most of y'all didn't read the actual article. The list isn't based on vocal talent.

"Before you start scrolling (and commenting), keep in mind that this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List. Talent is impressive; genius is transcendent. Sure, many of the people here were born with massive pipes, perfect pitch, and boundless range. Others have rougher, stranger, or more delicate instruments. As our write-up for the man who ended up at Number 112 notes, “Ozzy Osbourne doesn’t have what most people would call a good voice, but boy does he have a great one.” That could apply to more than a few people here.

In all cases, what mattered most to us was originality, influence, the depth of an artist’s catalog, and the breadth of their musical legacy. A voice can be gorgeous like Mariah Carey’s, rugged like Toots Hibbert’s, understated like Willie Nelson’s, slippery and sumptuous like D’Angelo’s, or bracing like Bob Dylan’s. But in the end, the singers behind it are here for one reason: They can remake the world just by opening their mouths."

I do think there are clear omissions from this list that are very questionable (notably Celine Dion), but y'all trying to argue "Well 'x' person is a worst technical singer than 'y', why are they so high up?!" aren't taking other factors into account. Like, is Taylor Swift the best singer out there? No. Far from it. But you cannot argue the impact and influence she has as an artist.

Eh Taylor has had impact, sure, but it isn’t her vocals that do that so much as her writing. To say she’s a better vocalist than ROSALÍA and Celine Dion is bonkers

I'm not going to defend the entirety of that list because I also don't think it's that good, but again, it's more than just vocals. That is a part of their criteria, but it's not the only thing they're ranking these singers based on. Taylor's impact and songwriting is probably why she is put highly on that list (relative to other artists). I don't doubt anyone would argue that she's a better vocalist than Celine f*cking Dion :selena:

If that is the case than I am sorry, I love Ari A LOT, but she does not surpass Gaga in any of those categories so why is she higher?

Because honestly this list is [censored by my lawyer]. As some people said above, they seem lost in their own criteria.

I love that the internet is making noise over Celine Dion being omitted. It’s what RS deserves. Singer, vocalist, artist - Celine Dion is without a doubt one of the greatest of all time.

Celine Dion is somehow missing from this list. She is considered one of the greatest vocalists of all time, not to mention one of thr biggest selling solo artist of all time, and they FAIL TO Even MENTION HER? Who made this flop list?

That list is too random to make any sense.

Ariana Grande and ADELE higher than MJ? LMAO And I actually think if they really took into account musical legacy or whatever then Taylor Swift should be in the Top 100.

The Celine Dion erasure is a major boo-boo. P!nk should also be there, as well as Madonna. At the top of their games, their influences were unmatched.

They can't apply the rules to some, and not for others.

No Floor Jansen, Lara Fabian, Dimash or Céline Dion? Ok..

Lana del Rey among Joan Baez..

The presence of Rihanna, Taylor Swift or Billie Eillish in this list...

Beyonce, Ariana and Bowie overrated as always..

Janis Joplin underrated...

Glad to see Karen O, Fela Kuti, Sade and Françoise Hardy though !

Did you not read the first part of my comment? I know the list is bad. I'm not defending it. I'm just saying that you can't only look at a performer's technical vocal ability when debating this list because that's not what Rolling Stone did.
