Milan reports 50% of passengers on China flights have Covid

Italian health authorities will begin testing all arrivals from China for Covid after almost half of the passengers on two flights to Milan were found to have the virus. 

They are also sequencing the Milan tests to see if there are new variants, the Health Ministry said in a statement. If a new strain is found, officials may impose stricter curbs on travel from the country. 

China has seen outbreaks of the virus since the government there abandoned its strict zero-Covid policies.

Most of those who tested positive weren’t showing symptoms. But local media reported that there’s increasing concern among health officials about new Covid variants emerging from China.

Italy was the first European country to be hit hard by Covid in early 2020.

I know it’s not fair to the citizens of china but for the rest of the world if they are having such a huge resurgence of a new variant then they should be denied access to any foreign country via flight or train. I would hope that would be the response from any country that was experiencing this and doesn’t want this to continue to spread and wreck havoc but it’s already to late I think.

I mean...the main issues are how densely populated China is and how useless their vaccines are. If their government would just allow Pfizer and Moderna to share this wouldn't be a concern

There is a middle ground where testing is kept up, masks are used, and quality vaccines are distributed.

How they can travel anyway is beyond me, none of them are vaxxed with mRNA vaccines such as Pfizer and Moderna which are requirement for many European & North American countries, aside from Astrazeneca, before one can visit.

China should have invested in making better vaccines and vaccinating everyone while they were in lockdowns. 

This is absolutely ridiculous and it’s just gonna cause bigger outbreaks worldwide.

Didn't they ease restrictions and lockdowns? I heard of no such news that they just dropped all protocols
