At the very least, there's some songs I can tolerate even if I don't love them. But the first thought is Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses. Her monotone voice, that obnoxious instrumental, it doesn't even sound Christmassy. I honestly just found out its storyline today, I've never even heard a word of it other than "Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas", the mere sound of it is enough for me. And it plays in every shopping centre and worms it way into so many Christmas ads every year. Thing is, the charts show it was never a hit, so why it keeps getting rotation is beyond me. As for others, Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody is so grating and the shouty nature of it creates a depressing feel and John Lennon's Merry Xmas (War Is Over) is the ultimate festive depression anthem. I just realised last night that it's Step Into Christmas by Elton John was the annoying song I heard every year (I always thought the chorus was "yes, this is Christmas" so I'd never heard this elusive Step Into Christmas song, or so I thought)!
